Job Description
Work in a team environment to plan, coordinate, supervise, and implement forest management projects and programs on 364,000 acres of highly productive and diverse forestland. The scope includes stewardship of people and the environment; outreach and education; and silviculture, harvest, transportation, and land management operations.
Please note that this is a remote position, but candidates must be located in or near the Kellogg or Coeur d'Alene area. This requirement is due to the role's focus on managing properties in Kootenai and Shoshone Counties, particularly around Kellogg, Pinehurst, and Wallace.
**Responsibilities:**
+ The region encompasses 364,000 acres in Northeast Washington and Northern Idaho. This position will be focused on northern Idaho properties.
+ Harvest unit and associated transportation systems planning, layout, permitting, and contract supervision.
+ Harvest unit design, boundary delineation, environmental compliance, harvest system selection, bidding/negotiating price, contracting, contract administration, etc.
+ Manager road maintenance projects.
+ Develop budgets and forecasts.
+ Implementation of the stewardship program, including SFI.
+ Coordinate with and assist silviculture team on reforestation programs
+ Support land management activities development and implementation.
+ Active and involved participant in the safety program.
+ Development of property management plans, property budgets, and budget forecasts.
+ Environmental stewardship program implementation and compliance.
+ Safety culture development, program implementation, and compliance.
+ Participate in all Team projects and help foster the Team atmosphere.

In this key leadership role, the City Forester will oversee all aspects of the city's forestry operations and be responsible for managing urban forestry programs, supervising staff, enforcing forestry codes, and implementing the City's Forestry Management Plan. **_Pay Range for this role is $21.50 - $26.50 per hour, depending on relevant education, experience, and industry-specific certifications._**

**WHAT YOU WILL DO:**
+ Perform safety oversight of contractors to ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards during all vegetation clearing activities.
+ Assist in the planning and creation of the vegetation clearing scope of work to account for all NERC and utility right of way standards and expectations.
+ Contact property owners to discuss and obtain required written permission to perform vegetation work where necessary.
+ Perform and document quality assurance (QA) inspections on contractor's work for compliance to scope of work, as well as the utility's and industry's specifications.
+ Conduct hazard tree assessments.
+ Communicate daily with the utility client, contractors, landowners, and the general public.
+ Develop a comprehensive understanding of all relevant utility and environmental standards and expectations.
+ Complete work summaries, updated QA reports and progress report updates weekly with a high level of detail.
+ Perform duties in a manner that will promote and maintain good public relations.
+ Willingness to work storm duty following catastrophic weather events that effect the Utility.
+ Drive a company vehicle safely to work locations for the organization.
+ Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
**WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE:**
+ Local tree identification skills.
+ Must have strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, the ability to multi-task and an attention to detail.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to represent AMS and its services in a professional and positive manner.
+ Knowledge of common computer applications and ability to learn new programs.
+ Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
+ Must have basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
+ Ability to work safely and independently in remote areas with limited supervision.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
+ Ability to accurately read maps and judge spatial distances.
+ Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
**WHAT WOULD BE AMAZING TO HAVE:**
+ Associates or Bachelors' degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or related discipline preferred.
+ 1-3 years prior experience in Forestry, Arboriculture, Horticulture or tree-related green industry.
+ ISA Arborist Certification is a plus.
+ Prior experience with GIS Mapping Programs a plus.
+ Having a strong team mentality, work ethic, and sense of pride in your work a plus.
+ Familiarity with powerline nomenclature and construction a plus.
+ Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
**Working Environment**
Work alone in an outdoor field environment; vehicle and foot patrol of utility power lines; remote locations as well as urban, city environment; physical demands and travel from site to site, including walking/hiking on various surfaces including flat, dry, wet, slippery, uneven, rough, steep terrain, hills, and slopes; exposure to noise, dust, grease, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions. **Physical**

(sandbags); to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; ability to verbally communicate to exchange information with public; ability to see and hear in normal range with or without correction; operate assigned field equipment, including handheld computer, range finder, fyrake, water backpack, shovel, and traffic cone.
