The Conservation and Science Technician (CT) will support, assist and provide technical expertise to implement animal care and conservation programs, science-based practice, novel research, and outreach at Walt Disney's Parks & Resorts. Each Conservation and Science Technician position will specialize in either 1) physiology and environmental monitoring, 2) behavioral husbandry, 3) animal behavior science, 4) marine or terrestrial conservation and science or 5) conservation and science engagement and behavior change. However, we work as one multidisciplinary team to address dynamic needs where they arise across disciplines. The animal behavior technician (CT) specifically contributes to the collection, interpretation, summarization and publication of animal behavior data to support animal husbandry, health, welfare and conservation. Scientific methods are primarily used in an applied manner but at times can take a more hypothesis/classic research driven approach.

**What You Will Do**
+ Conduct various aspects of scientific projects with a primary focus on collecting, organizing, analyzing, and reporting animal behavior data to inform husbandry and optimize animal well-being. Hormone analysis, sensory environment assessment, ecological/community surveys, wildlife monitoring, and habitat protection duties may also be assigned
+ Collect, process and visualize data, and produce reports or presentations with visual appeal and clarity for partners; review videos; conduct literature searches, maintain databases and archival tools.
+ Produce publications for scientific journals.
+ Provide support for meetings, classes, and workshops and contribute findings for staff seminars, team meetings, scientific journals, conference presentations, popular publications, and social media.
+ Develop and update standard operating guidelines, and provide technical support, organization and maintenance for equipment and safe work spaces, and ensuring hazardous waste compliance.
+ Order and distribute supplies, maintaining inventory and assisting with quality assurance.
+ Provide flexibility across Science Operations and Conservation teams and other science and conservation working groups to support operational and strategic goals.
+ Engage with diverse Disney teams in the training and daily coordination of Cast Members and operating participants when on-boarding or for specific initiatives or projects.
+ Support communication efforts, help create original content and interactive, interpretive experiences, and engage regularly with Guests and other audiences to share our stories. Support external partnerships to advance conservation, research, and public engagement.

**Required Qualifications & Skills**
+ Demonstrated computer, written and oral communication and interpersonal skills for formal and informal audiences of all ages, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
+ Experience with behavioral data collection, and a basic understanding of animal behavior and animal welfare science including current trends in research and methodological approaches.
+ Enthusiasm for animal conservation and care.
+ Ability to support multiple projects and deadlines with attention to detail and ability to problem solve.
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as within dynamic team environment.
+ Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and in view of the public. Ability to endure heat, humidity, biting insects, and other challenges associated with work in the field on associated conservation projects. Willing to travel and work in remote areas alone or with others.

**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience working in zoos/aquariums and/or with wildlife.

Program Summary:
Appalachian Conservation Corps (ACC) works to connect young people to critical conservation service work across Appalachia and neighboring communities in Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, DC, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. As an AmeriCorps program, ACC partners with public land managers to identify, plan, and complete projects that improve public access, habitat quality, and economic development. ACC is a program of Conservation Legacy, a nationwide network of conservation service organizations. Our programs focus on service, place-based learning, life skills development, appreciation of diversity, civic responsibility, and career development. ACC also provides an opportunity for members to learn about the local environment and issues affecting it and introduces individuals to recreation and resource management careers. Position Summary:
The Field Supervisor’s primary role is to provide leadership, technical, and logistical field support to all ACC conservation crews. The position requires a significant field presence to assist crews with project needs, as well as management of the ACC shop. Field visits cover a multi-state footprint including, but not limited to VA, WV, PA, DE and OH. Field time will consist of day crew visits near the ACC office and overnight visits to camping crews. The schedule for this position is based on dynamic organizational needs. This individual will be expected to work independently and as a member of a team.
Responsibilities:
Field Support
- Maintain a consistent staff presence in the field, including frequent overnight stays to assist in managing on-the-ground project quality and quantity.
- Support rig-up and de-rig events and procedures.
- Serve as technical expert and advisor on projects as needed, aligning project details with partner/agency standards and specifications.
- Maintain strong working relationships with a diverse array of land managers including pre-site visits.
- Enforce and exemplify all ACC, CL, and agency policies and procedures while in the field and at office/shop.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of Crew Leader and Crew Member trainings.
- Serve as substitute on crews as needed.
- Support, coach, mentor and supervise members and leaders in both technical and interpersonal work.
- Facilitate behavior improvement and disciplinary procedures as needed.
Shop and Vehicle Support
- Maintain shop space to operate efficiently, including tracking and repairing hand and power tools.
- Track, maintain, and purchase tools and field equipment.
- Assist in management and maintenance of ACC’s vehicle and trailer fleet.
- Assist Program Coordinators in tracking established annual budget for field related resources.
- Assist with food purchasing for crews when needed.

Staff Support
- Collaborate with the Program Director, Program Managers, and Program Coordinators to train, mentor, and supervise a broad scope of corps members and crew leaders across ACC programs.
- Assist ACC staff in identifying and developing an internal talent pool for future leadership positions inside and outside of ACC.
- Assist Program Coordinators in the implementation of crew leader and corps member trainings including technical work, protocols, leadership, and facilitation skills.
- Be a role model and mentor throughout training and field season.
- Work with other ACC staff on pressing projects as needed.
- Collaborate with other program staff to ensure proper resources are provided to crews in the field.
- Learn ACC’s Emergency Phone systems and take part in “on-call” responses as needed.
Other Duties:
- Assist with a wide variety of in-house trainings, such as leadership, chainsaw operations, trail work, driving, Leave, and orientation for incoming members and leaders. The Field Technician may also be involved with other on-the-job trainings such as advanced felling, fence construction and maintenance, rigging, and historic preservation.

Qualifications:

Description of Work Unit
The Colorado Natural Heritage Program ( CNHP ) is Colorado's primary biological conservation information center housed within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University. CNHP is a key player in Colorado's conservation of open lands and maintains the only centralized conservation database in Colorado that includes plants, animals, and natural communities. The staff consists of approximately 40 highly experienced biologists and information managers with expertise in inventory, research, and monitoring of Colorado's flora, fauna, plant communities, and conservation issues.
CNHP serves a wide variety of users including federal, state and local agencies, consultants, environmental groups, non-government organizations, private landowners, and the public. CNHP's annual revenue is approximately 6 million dollars and is generated from contracts and agreements through CNHP's partners and clients. The Colorado Natural Heritage Program ( CNHP ) at Colorado State University ( CSU ) has position opportunities for a variety of Conservation Research Associates for both Special and Temporary Administrative Professional assignments. These positions will be in the fields of Zoology, Botany, Vegetation Ecology, GIS , and various Environmental Compliance support areas. These positions will be located on the CSU campus in Fort Collins, CO or at other duty stations around the state depending on project needs. Depending on the position, it can be either full-time in-person, or part-time in-person/part-time remote. Positions are contingent upon funding.
Positions can involve extensive travel, camping in remote settings, and long 10+ hour field days. They can also involve planning logistics for and completing 4 to 8-day field hitches; driving and hiking to field sites; detailed completion of field forms; and communication with project partners.
Some positions will spend a large portion of the time in the field, while others will spend most of the time in an office setting.
Zoology: The Zoology Team supports animal inventory, assessment, and monitoring projects across Colorado. Duties include planning and logistics, securing land access, creating field maps in ArcGIS, and preparing supplies. During summer, the role involves extensive travel and fieldwork to collect animal and habitat data. After the field season, tasks include data quality control, data entry, analysis, and report writing. Additional responsibilities may include managing past data, assisting with proposals, hiring and training field staff, and supporting other projects. Proficiency in scientific writing, Microsoft Office, statistical software, and ArcGIS are required.
Botany and Vegetation Ecology Teams: The Botany and Vegetation Ecology Team supports projects in Colorado and nearby western states through all project phases, including planning, logistics, gaining land access, ArcGIS Field Map projects and Survey123 form creation, and field gear preparation. Summer fieldwork may include data collection on biodiversity and geospatial data, vegetation and other environmental conditions, native seed and herbarium specimen collection, weed mapping and treatment, vegetation and rare plant surveys, and restoration activities, often acting as a crew lead or manager. Field tasks require navigation skills, highway and rough dirt-road vehicle travel, and off-trail hiking in rugged terrain, with detailed data collection following protocols and standards of the NatureServe Core Methodology. Post-season work includes data quality control, entry, analysis, specimen processing, geospatial product creation, presentation creation, and report writing. May also assist with proposals, temporary staff hiring, training, and supervision, sponsor meetings, and other project support.
Geographic Information Systems ( GIS ): The GIS Team provides technical support as needed on multiple projects. May enter data into CNHP's Biotics Data System, assist with the creation of story maps and other GIS products as needed, and other duties as assigned. Additional duties may include:
+ Cartography
+ Spatial data collection, including post-processing, development, and standardization
+ Spatial analysis and spatial modeling
+ Script and tool development using python, SQL , ETL , or ArcGIS Model Builder Survey123, ArcGIS Field Maps, Avenza Maps, or other data form development

Required Job Qualifications
+ Degree and experience in a related field; the number of years' experience required is dependent on the Research Associate (RA) level:
+ Research Associate I: BA/BS with less than 3 years of professional, post-baccalaureate (or equivalent) experience.
+ Research Associate II: BA/BS and 3 years of relevant professional experience or a recent MA/MS degree and no other significant professional experience.
+ Research Associate III : BA/BS degree and 5 years of work-related experience or a MA/MS degree with at least 2 years' experience or a PhD with no additional experience.
+ Research Associate IV: BA/BS degree and 10 years of work-related experience or a MA/MS degree with at least 5 years' experience or a PhD + 2 years' experience.
+ Demonstrated organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills; ability to handle complex tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

+ Experience with data collection related to seed collection, collecting native seed, and the USFS Region 2 Native Plant Materials Program.
+ Experience using NatureServe Core Methodology (Natural Heritage Methodology) in the field to collect data on tracked plants and plant communities.
+ Experience weed mapping and weed mapping techniques and weed species of Colorado.
+ Experience with the Colorado State Wildlife Action Plan Tier 1 & Tier 2 species of greatest conservation need including threatened, endangered and candidate plant species of Colorado.

+ Training and experience using GIS software.
+ Specific field experience in one or more of the following areas: rare plants, wetland or upland vegetation, small mammals, invertebrates, and/or amphibians.
+ Experience interpreting aerial photography (e.g., Google Earth), navigating with a topographic map, and use of GPS .
+ Experience with various sampling techniques (vegetation sampling or animal trapping).
+ Experience driving 4×4 vehicles on rough roads and camping in remote locations.
+ Experience collecting data electronically using tablets or other devices.
+ Experience working in the Rocky Mountain, Intermountain West, or Plains Ecosystems.
+ Willingness and ability to work long hours and unusual schedules, travel extensively during the field season, car camp, and hike long distances (up to 6+ miles/day) while carrying a heavy pack (up to 40 pounds) with a positive attitude in field conditions that include exposure to inclement weather, rugged terrain, hot or cold weather, mosquitos, and poisonous plants, all while maintaining a strong commitment to team safety.

The Custodial Supervisor will assist management in maintaining or improving cleanliness quality through inspections, training and employee accountability, including employee coaching or counseling. Supervisors must build upon established employee or customer relationships, improve employee morale, and help develop frontline associates on a continuous basis.
**Job Responsibilities**
+ Conduct daily and frequent inspections for quality and safety and implement corrective action
+ Understand all employee work assignments and schedule for adequate coverage
+ Conduct training and retraining as needed and follow recommended training process
+ Enforce department policies, follow up on daily assignments, and conduct counseling or disciplinary action
+ Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with associates, peers, customers and managers
+ Supervise special projects and on-call or new employees
+ Audit building keys, pagers, and payroll daily
+ Ensure all projects, maintenance, or cleaning challenges are communicated effectively for resolution
+ Control supply inventories and distribute equipment as needed
+ Observe equipment performance and report needed repairs/replacements
+ Assist in performing employee performance evaluations and make recommendations on employee performance ratings
+ Observe and report the need for furniture or other building fixtures repairs
+ May assist in completing custodial work assignments
+ Provide functional/operational support to work area as essential personnel during times of emergency, catastrophe, inclement weather, etc.
