SUMMARY

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for the assessment and basic management of medical, trauma and environmental emergencies under the supervision of the staff nurse and/or physician. Assists with patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under the direct supervision of the EMT supervisor or staff nurse.

This position attends patients at County or non-County medical facilities. Incumbents determine when a patient's condition requires emergency patient care such as administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen, and resuscitation with a bag-valve-mask, in addition to providing emergency technical care during emergencies. Incumbents must demonstrate the ability to lift, carry, push, or transfer patients between beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, or cots.

If hired for this position, you will be required to provide proof that you are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to your start date or have a valid religious or medical reason qualifying you for an exemption (that may or may not require accommodation).

This position is expected to last through June 30, 2026.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides for the comfort and safety of patients by performing patient care functions such as positioning, suctioning, and checking pulse, respirations, blood pressure and skin color. Lifts and transfers patients between beds and stretchers.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.  Demonstrated ability to implement clinical care in accordance with outlined policies and procedures.  Demonstrate knowledge of infection control and prevention standard precautions.  Ability to exercise sound judgment while working in a stressful environment.  Ability to bend, pull, push, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Education/Experience

  • One year of experience at the level of EMT assisting patients in ambulance companies, EMS provider agency, hospitals and other medical facilities. E.R. experience preferred.

Certificates/Licenses/Clearances

  • Must have current EMT Certification.
  • Must have Current CPR certification.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • Successfully clear the LA County Live Scan process.
  • Successfully clear the Health Clearance

**What else you need to know:**
+ **Background Investigation** - The successful candidate(s) must pass a background investigation that includes a complete criminal records check, a polygraph examination, a medical examination and a psychological examination. Background investigations will be conducted as openings occur and include the following: driving history, credit history, arrest records, military records, educational records, and other sources where information can be obtained to measure one's suitability for police work. Successful applicants must successfully complete the state law enforcement training program (Basic Law Enforcement Academy or BLEA) and a Patrol Training Officer (PTO) process.
+ **Automatic Disqualifiers** - You will need to review our list of Automatic Disqualifiers related to Criminal Activity, Driving Record, Drug Use, Employment and Financials before submittal of your application.
+ **Work Schedule** - You will work a fixed, 12.5-hour shifts and available work shifts are bid on annually by seniority. The patrol schedule currently consists of a dayshift running from 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM and a nightshift running from 5:00 PM to 5:30 AM. Newly hired officers can generally expect to initially work weekend night shifts once their field training is complete. Some overtime may be needed to meet operational needs.
+ **Work Environment** - You will work in both indoor and outdoor environments in a variety of weather conditions. The employee sometimes works in or near moving traffic and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles consistent with working near aircraft and maritime vessels. May be exposed to aircraft noise. Will be required to walk and stand for extended periods of time throughout each shift.
+ **Overtime Eligible** - You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
+ **Security Requirements** - As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.

**Job Summary**
The Police Officer is a sworn officer responsible for law enforcement, security, loss prevention, and customer service duties. They provide a visible presence to deter hospital threats. Duties include maintaining law and order on hospital grounds, patrolling and protecting buildings, and checking for unauthorized patient movement, security breaches, and unsafe conditions. They conduct investigations, make arrests, testify in court, and enforce traffic and parking regulations. Officers also monitor patient and visitor activities, assist nursing staff with combative patients, and perform searches for unauthorized patient absences.
**Essential Functions of the Role**
+ Patrols assigned areas in vehicle, by bicycle, and on foot to detect and deter crime.
+ Apprehends subjects committing crimes.
+ Responds to emergency calls, safety escorts, and calls for assistance.
+ Produces complete, accurate, and concise reports. Includes criminal offenses, false fire alarms, safety hazards, and general information. Follows internal processes and legal requirements.
+ Serves in specialized units such as investigations, fire safety, crime prevention, and training as assigned and emergency management.
+ Completes initial investigations and follow-up investigations as assigned.
+ Participates in crime prevention strategies and special programs as assigned.
+ Enforces state laws, policies, procedures, and forwards the mission of the organization.
+ Transports legal documents, valuables, medical instruments, and supplies. Ensures the safe and timely transfer of valued articles.
+ Stays current with rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines affecting the department and organization. Stays updated on security developments by attending training and reading security literature and journals.
