Henry Ford Health is seeking a Director of Infrastructure and Project Management. This leader administers and oversees day-to-day operations of healthcare facility infrastructure projects for the Henry Ford Health (HFH). The principal responsibilities are to assure successful completion of all infrastructure projects by partnering with system planning and design, and overseeing related construction management, equipment/furnishing, and IT, and supporting occupancy planning. The role reports to the HFH System Vice President of Infrastructure Planning, Design and Construction, with a matrix relationship to all construction project stakeholders. This position is a member of the health system support services leadership team, and will actively participate in strategic, operational, and capital planning.

The Director of Infrastructure and Project Management (IPM) will provide leadership and technical expertise for all teams related to construction and capital budget in a team-oriented environment and as needed, support Planning, Design & Construction (PDC) with capital projects. This role is responsible for monitoring day-to-day departmental operational efficiencies and staffing and creating an environment that motivates staff to accomplish successful construction projects in a team environment. Reporting to this position will be Project Manager(s) (currently estimated at one or two). Manages any contracted employees or temporary interns or employees. Hiring and ongoing supervision, including performance reviews and monitoring for all subordinates and those who review others are expected.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• BA or BS degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field is required.
• Masters Degree preferred. Ten (10) years of operational facilities experience specifically related to healthcare in a Level 1 Trauma institute.
• Five (5) years of experience in a healthcare design and construction leadership role, encompassing planning, design, contract management, in a healthcare setting.
• Five (5) years prior supervisory and budget management experience and background.
• Five (5) years management experience encompassing technical and staff construction supervision.
• Experience with capital planning or management in Hospital or Healthcare organization.
• Experience with construction estimating.
• Familiarity with academic medical centers and demonstrated ability to work across an integrated delivery system, developing strong partnerships and communicating effective with all organizational stakeholders.
• Analytical and quantitative acumen related to construction.
• Critical thinking, logic, and analytical ability to identify and assess the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to project work and operations, identifying the nature of problems, implementing solutions, observing, and evaluating the outcomes of a proposed solution to identify lessons learned or to redirect efforts.
• Excellent interpersonal skills required. Must possess strong management skills, with an emphasis on people development.
• Must possess ability to be a self-starter and independent worker, able to juggle priorities and manage own work.
• Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Overview: The Senior Infrastructure Engineer (hardware-focused) will manage and maintain on-premises servers and storage while supporting virtualization and OS platforms. This role oversees the full hardware lifecycle (procurement, deployment, patching, and decommissioning) for enterprise systems (e.g. Cisco UCS and HPE/Dell servers, EMC/HPE/NetApp storage) to ensure performance, reliability, and security. The engineer also administers Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) and Windows Server environments and virtual platforms (VMware vSphere/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V), using automation (PowerShell, Python, etc.) and monitoring tools (SCOM, PRTG, Cisco Intersight, etc.) to optimize system health. This position focuses on server/storage hardware; network devices (switches/routers) and data-center physical tasks (racking) are handled by other specialized teams. Hardware security and compliance (firmware vulnerability mitigation, backups, disaster recovery) are also key responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Hardware Lifecycle Management: Install, configure, and maintain enterprise servers and storage (Cisco UCS, HPE/Dell blade/rack servers; EMC/HPE/NetApp SAN and NAS). Perform firmware/BIOS updates, and capacity planning to prevent failures. Plan and execute hardware refreshes or decommissions, documenting changes and coordinating replacements or RMAs with vendors.

• Infrastructure Upgrades & Migrations: Design, coordinate, and document infrastructure upgrade and migration projects (new hardware deployments, data migrations). Provide hands-on support during rollouts, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.

• Virtualization & OS Administration: Deploy and troubleshoot virtual machines and hosts on VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V. Administer core Linux and Windows Server environments (deployment, configuration, patching, troubleshooting) to support application and infrastructure services.

• Monitoring & Automation: Implement and maintain monitoring tools (e.g. Cisco Intersight, SCOM, PRTG) to track hardware health, capacity, and performance. Develop automation scripts (PowerShell, Python) and standard operating procedures to streamline routine tasks (updates, reporting, provisioning).

• Security & Compliance: Identify hardware-level vulnerabilities (e.g. firmware flaws) and work with security teams to apply patches or mitigations. Ensure hardware configurations adhere to security policies, backup and disaster-recovery plans.

• Documentation & Communication: Maintain detailed documentation of hardware configurations, infrastructure diagrams, procedures, and change logs. Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams (security, application, network) and vendors to communicate updates, resolve issues, and support business needs.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years in IT infrastructure or systems engineering, with a focus on enterprise hardware and virtualization.

• Hardware & Storage: Hands-on experience with enterprise server/storage platforms (e.g. Cisco UCS, HPE ProLiant/Synergy, Dell servers; EMC, HPE, or NetApp storage arrays) and SAN technologies (Fibre Channel, iSCSI).

• Systems/Virtualization: Proficiency in Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) and Windows Server administration; experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi and/or Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization.

• Networking Concepts: Basic understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, Fibre Channel SAN zoning). (Note: This role does not administer network switches/routers, but interfaces with networking teams as needed.)

• Automation & Scripting: Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash, etc.) for automation and tooling.

• Monitoring & Tools: Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring and management tools (e.g. Cisco Intersight, SCOM, PRTG, Nagios) and capacity planning.

• Security & Compliance : Knowledge of hardware security best practices, patch management, and ITIL/change-management processes.

• Soft Skills: Excellent communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills. Able to coordinate with vendors and internal teams effectively.

Preferred Qualifications & Certifications

• Certifications: Cisco Data Center (CCNA/CCNP DC), HPE or Dell EMC storage or server certifications, VMware VCP or similar virtualization certs, CompTIA Server+, and/or Microsoft Certified: Windows Server.

• Cloud & Containers: Experience with cloud/hybrid environments (e.g. Azure, AWS) and container orchestration (Kubernetes/OpenShift) is a plus.

• Automation/DevOps: Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and DevOps tools (Ansible, Terraform, etc.) is advantageous.

Under some supervision, the position is responsible for third-party project management. Perfoms inspection and quality assurance aspects of various projects assigned by the manager, to ensure that project implementation and completion meet the requirements and needs of SEPTA. Handles 5 to 15 individual contracts to insure consistent, timely, efficient, and economical performance of contract services in accordance with standards and specifications. Maintains complete, accurate and organized contract administration files.

Specific responsibilities include managing existing contracts, monitoring contract financial expenditures, providing supervisor reports, preparing budgets for proposed projects, overseeing demolitions and construction activities, observing submitted shop drawings, enforcing approved MPT documents, overseeing waterproofing applications, conducting daily safety briefings, completing and submitting daily inspection reports, assisting in developing cost estimates, coordinating between SEPTA and contractors, assisting in project close out, complying with safety and security policies, and performing other duties as required.

Qualifications and experience required include a bachelor's degree and four years of satisfactory experience in project, contract or construction/inspection management. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Strong personal computer skills, proficiency in MS software applications, ability to prepare reports and maintain records, excellent interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a valid driver's license are also required. NORAC qualified, QPE and PC qualified preferred or to be completed within 6 months of job award. Proficiency in the use of Project Management software is required.
