Job Scope
This position is responsible for providing responsible direction, supervision, and control for the transportation activities, policies, and procedures to assure the timely receipt and fulfillment of quality materials, supplies, and equipment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the movement of goods in accordance with DiaSorin organizational policy and local and international law.
- Manage logistics coordination among express carriers, freight forwarders, and airlines.
- Anticipate, research, and report on changes in transportation practices and costs, ensuring such knowledge is factored into the planning of procedures and resources.
- Identify new procedures and methods to expedite logistics and cost savings for the efficient and lawful operations of international traffic.
- Monitor and supervise custom product shipments, hazardous shipments, critical raw material shipments and triangle trade or drop shipments.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound ocean freight shipments. Secure favorable rates and preferred routing, arrange proper documentation, track, assist with import and export customs clearance, and provide internal/external status updates.
- Work with Trade Compliance to maintain compliant internal and external global trade processes. Evaluate transportation and forwarding partners accordingly.
- Communicate with customers in all relevant territories to ensure efficient transportation activities and requirements have been satisfied.
- Prepare monthly transportation progress reports (i.e. Transit time trends, temperature range control, customer service complaints related to forwarder performance, monthly freight cost comparison, etc.)
- Perform monthly supplier performance reviews including forwarders, express couriers, truckers, etc.
- Manage carrier contracts. Analyze expenditures and develop innovative alternative or improvements for increasing profitability.
- Develop transportation standard operating procedures with each service provider. Monitor and manage provider adherence to agreed procedures and expectations.
- Monitor and report freight cost market conditions, i.e. Fuel Surcharge, Security Fee, etc.
- Manage transportation cold chain management program. Track, document and remedy non-conformance temperature trends by working with associated carriers, airlines, etc.
- Submit freight claims as necessary to support OSD (over, short, damaged goods) procedures.
- Maintain transportation procedures and process flow charts.
- Maintain transportation guidelines and conduct training.
- Audit and approve freight bills. Review supporting documentation to ensure compliance.
- Provide supplemental logistics-related training to applicable departments and affiliates.
- Support the needs of personnel within/across work groups.
- Participate in financial planning/budgeting analysis.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, International Trade or related field
- 2+ years Transportation related experience
- Experience with importer/exporter or forwarder (preferred)
- Completion of international import and export documentation courses (preferred)
- Completion of Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) training (preferred)
- International Aviation Transport Association Dangerous Goods Regulations (IATA DGR) certification (preferred)
- US DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations (DOT HazMat) (preferred)
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of co-workers in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner, demonstrating strong conflict resolution skills when appropriate
- Ability to lead skillful and tactful transportation and logistics activities to ensure timely response to demand at costs and quality acceptable to the organization
- Demonstrated ability to formulate, implement, and practice transportation and logistics policies and procedures to assure effective material acquisition, material management, and order fulfillment for the organization

The salary range for this position is $85K - $95K annually.
