Job Description
Ammobia is seeking a motivated and creative Process Design Engineer to develop and optimize process designs for next generation ammonia production plants. You will play a key role in designing Ammobia's product, the ammonia plant, and its integrations with various feedstock and energy sources.
You are an experienced and creative process engineer looking for a high impact role in an early-stage startup. You value teamwork, data-based decisions, and rapid iteration.
Successful applicants will have most of the following
Job Description- Design, simulate, and optimize plant process designs incorporating our proprietary swing reactor
- Develop novel separations, energy integration, and process integration schemes
- Build flowsheets BFDs, PFDs, HMBs to iterate on process designs to de-risk and cost-down the plant, including through internal cost estimation and collaboration with external parties
- Develop plant designs and optimizations for specific plant scales and customer use cases
- Work closely with our reaction engineering team and other process engineers to design an integrated and optimized system
- Develop and implement techno-economic models for our ammonia production scheme, especially from low carbon and variable energy sources
- 5+ years’ experience in a relevant industrial setting, likely an EPC, technology licensor, boutique engineering firm, or similar
- Expertise in plant process design, for example in energy, O&G, chemicals
- Advanced knowledge of flow sheeting and custom modeling software, eg, Aspen, gPROMS, etc
- Advanced knowledge of chemical processing unit operations and systems, eg, gas separations, heat recovery, purge systems, etc
- Experience generating capital cost estimates through Aspen capital cost or public cost data
- Experience generating class 4-5 cost estimates through fabricator/EPC outreach

The base salary range for this position is:
USD 100,000 - 225,000
This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. Job DescriptionGrace is hiring a Process Design Team Lead to join our Engineering team at our Lake Charles, LA manufacturing site. This role reports to the Engineering Manager.
As a Process Design Team Lead, you will be accountable for the professional and technical leadership of the process design engineering employees and contractors and the continuous improvement thereof. This position will also play a critical role in aligning the Business, Operations and Engineering activities of the FEL 0 and FEL 1 goals and deliverables for all Lake Charles capital projects.
Responsibilities- Manage and mentor a team of 4 Process Design Engineers and provide technical guidance
- Review process design packages developed by internal engineering team or external EPC contractors
- Collaborate with various site and corporate teams and develop process designs to enable production of new product grades
- Ownership of FEL 0 & 1 alignment between operations, business and engineering and support project managers in other FEL stages
- Strong communication skills – able to influence operations and business leaders and all levels within the organization
- Effectively manage time across multiple projects and prioritize tasks with shifting priorities
- Establish / maintain the tools, standards, and workflows for process design group
- Investigate new technologies for process and productivity improvements
- Act as a liaison between process and other internal groups and external vendors
- Support Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs), Root Cause Analysis (RCAs) including MoC and PSSR
- Participate in process mapping, kaizen and value stream mapping events aimed at developing a project pipeline
- Conduct regulatory compliance calculations and interface with EHS on updating water and air permit limits
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator.
Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials.
Required Qualifications- B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or another engineering discipline
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience with process design development and project scope writing for various engineering phases such as Conceptual, Front-End Engineering, Detailed Design
- 10+ years of experience in a petro-chemical manufacturing environment and/or EPC
- Process engineering experience in the design of inorganic acids, bases and solids handling experience
- Prior experience with project framing, business case development and financial modeling
- Prior experience with stage gate process
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
