Job Purpose

Provides pick-up and delivery service of essential items to serve people accessing TRM services. Provides flexible scheduling options when working with community members and TRM programs. Assists in keeping the donation center organized and efficient. May provide transportation services for other TRM needs as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Coordinates responsibilities in conjunction with supervisor.
• Picks up scheduled donations and provides written receipts when accepting donations from community members.
• Loads and unloads truck.
• Coordinates with other departments to fulfill requests of the programs.
• Assists with processing incoming donations.
• Maintains professional communication with clients, donors, businesses, volunteers, and interns.
• Performs duties necessary for the upkeep of TRM vehicles (i.e. performs safety inspections, maintains accurate vehicle log, keeps vehicles washed and cleaned, ensures there is sufficient fuel in trucks, and reports safety or repair concerns to the supervisor).
• Embodies the values that form our culture to meet the organization's mission of sharing God's love, hope, and support with our neighbors in need to uplift communities.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support others and ensure an efficient and effective work environment.

Working Conditions

Occasionally works outdoors in inclement weather. Drives large box truck and operates small equipment with dexterity.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years' experience driving a 6 ton or larger delivery truck.
• Ability to operate the following equipment: box truck with hydraulic tail gate, forklift, trash compactor, small engine equipment, small electrical tools, hand truck, and pallet jack.
• Ability to prioritize driving time and respond positively to schedule changes as directed.
• Ability to work with diverse populations, demonstrating compassionate understanding.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment using effective and thoughtful interactions and communication.
• Skilled in clear and effective written, verbal, and electronic communication.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs.

Physical Requirements

• Stationary position 50% of the time.

Position Description:

The VTS Central Processing Center Driver will help drive VTS profitability through donation pickups and sales of bulk goods.

Time Requirements:

Position will be full-time -40 Hours per week.

Overtime will be approved on an exception basis by the Chief Business Officer.

Travel Requirements:

Extensive daily local travel is required in a Vapor Thrift Store vehicle (up to one hour radius from stores), in addition to once monthly staff meetings (within 20 mins of the store).

Equipment Requirements/Regulatory

• Position requires a DOT health certification annually.
• Position requires clear Motor Vehicle Report.
• Employee must complete and pass Forklift Certification Training and be Certified.

Position Duties:

The VTS Central Processing Center Driver will help drive VTS profitability through donation pickups and sales of bulk goods.

1. Excellent Customer Service

• Greet every customer and treat them with respect, optimism and joy at all times
• Answer any and all questions for customers
• Assist with any customer needs
• Properly thank each customer for their business and donation
• Escalate any customer service needs to Assistant Store Managers or Store Manager as needed
• Share the vision and mission of Vapor Ministries with customers

2. Oversee Bulk Processing

• Transfer all bulk/rag loads from all VTS store locations
• Oversee warehouse operations/space at CPC
• Track bulk inventory and coordinate with CBO on the scheduling of bulk sales
• Schedule truck maintenance with CBO, as needed
• Maintain and ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA requirements
• Inspect and report any maintenance needs of all material handling equipment

3. Donation Pick Ups

• Handle all donation pick-up requests, call donors, schedule pick-ups, evaluate items, load and transport to appropriate VTS location.
• Oversee warehouse operations/space at CPC

4. Opening/Closing

• If scheduled to open/close, perform and complete opening/closing checklist procedures
• Assist in opening/closing of retail store, if needed

5. Housekeeping

• Ensure a properly organized workspace during operating hours
• Maintain organized, clean and safe working area in bulk sales/processing areas

Summary

Attends donation events each month when scheduled. Participates in the collection, assessment, sorting, and packing of donated goods to be sent out in shipping containers. Follows scheduled driving assignments throughout the island of Kauai at predetermined locations for donation pickup.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Inspects donations to determine if its sellable. Sorts donations by item type and loads into containers. Any donation deemed trash/rubbish is placed in the trash/rubbish container or appropriate recycle bin.
• Responsible for safe vehicle operations, driving, and crew safety at all times.
• May be required to drive truck to destination. Prepares donations receipts at house pick-ups or miscellaneous deliveries, if needed.
• Loads and unloads material from vehicle by using a hand truck, pallet jack, or dolly.
• Responsible for safely operating the lift-gate when up-loading and down-loading cargo.
• Coordinates load movements with the truck helper and other crew when applicable.
• Loads vehicle, distributes weight evenly, forms compact load, organizes assorted donations and effectively utilizes space.
• Positions pads, stacks and secures items on truck to prevent damage to goods and positions blocks and ties rope around items to secure cargo during transit.
• Completes and maintains truck log, according to state and federal regulations.
• Responsible for awareness of and adherence to all company and safety policies and procedures.
• Observes vehicle operations policy including state and federal regulations.
• In case of an emergency, notifies the supervisor by phone and follows all company procedures.
• Operates other forklift trucks and vehicles as required, if currently certified.
• Keeps areas clean and neat. Organizes all assorted donations, metals, furniture, and bins.
• Conducts work in a safe and responsible manner, utilizing personal protective equipment (i.e., gloves, closed toed shoes, etc.) and/or equipment (i.e., hand truck, pallet jack, etc.) when appropriate.

What you'll be working on:
Accountable for the overall management and direction of the processes associated with the day-to-day functions of the Community Donation Center to make Savers the donation center of choice. Upholds company standards, regulations, and laws throughout all donor areas of the store (inside and outside), remaining aware of donor needs and monitoring and ensuring fast, friendly, and respectful service at point of donation. Responsible for promoting brand awareness in their community and developing relationships with and inspiring local organizations to partner with Savers. Donation Center Operations
- Ensures CDC is organized, clean, safe, and welcoming; ensures donation flow, storage and staging are always maintained.
- Partners with the Production Manager/Store Manager to manage donation flow from the CDC into the production room to help facilitate a manageable supply flow at all times.
- Engages with customers and donors to actively promote Savers' brand both in the store and in the community as required.
- Ensures donations are accurately weighed by classification and accounted for.
- Plans, tracks, and measures donation goals and results.
- Uses the CDC Scheduler and Daily Planner to schedule CDC Ambassadors appropriately, ensuring coverage is aligned with expected volume and donor traffic.

- Leverages Voice of the Customer Program to improve donor satisfaction.
- Performs the duties of the CDC Ambassador as required.
Leadership and Development
- Leads, directs, and supervises the work of CDC Ambassadors.
- Plans staffing needs; recruits, selects, and trains new CDC Ambassadors.
- Regularly interacts, trains, coaches, and counsels the CDC Ambassadors. Provides recognition and candid feedback. Addresses complaints and solves issues.

- Delivers a positive and unforgettable donor experience by training, coaching, and role-modeling donor service expectations to CDC Ambassadors.
- Continuously assesses the donor areas, and directs team member activity, to ensure that standards are met. Sets the pace of work.
- Actively engages with the donor by seeking firsthand feedback to make improvements to all aspects of the donor experience. Responds to donor questions, requests, and complaints.
- Educates all team members in the store on Savers' brand, empowering them to share stories about the business model to customers and the community.
- Works with store team in promoting awareness of our non-profit partner, joint brands, and community impact.
- Drives company promotions and other permitted grassroots efforts inside and outside the store that create community awareness of the CDC, the company brand, and the benefits of donating to Savers.
- Partners with the Sourcing team to lead or assist in Fundrive events as needed.
- Networks within the community through grassroots efforts to share the Savers story and promote awareness.

Minimum Required Education, Training and Experience:
- High School diploma: post-Secondary degree/diploma preferred.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to frequently lift and carry products weighing less than 5 lbs. Will occasionally need to lift and carry products weighing up to 50 lbs. Occasional pushing and pulling of racks/carts weighing 50 to 250 pounds using 4 - 10 lbs. of force.
- Frequent reaching out in various levels/directions to inspect/handle merchandise, validate work processes, train/coach/counsel the team.
- Possess dexterity for complex hand-eye tasks, including keyboarding, writing on documents/forms, merchandise & pricing inspection.
- Continuous standing, frequent walking, stooping, bending, and twisting and occasional kneeling needed to handle &/or inspect merchandise, validate work processes, train/coach/counsel the team.
- Frequently required to read written & electronic documents and product labels.
- Continuous need to hear and verbally communicate in order to interact with and respond to management, team members and customers. Will need to hear requests in person and via intercom and telephone.
- Will occasionally be exposed to hazardous machinery (compactor, baler, Big Joe), solvents (cleaners, detergents), radiation (Microwave in break room), continuously exposed to dust and frequently exposed to temperature fluctuations.
- Will need to adjust work schedule to the needs of the business, including working some nights, weekends, holidays.
- Able and willing to safely, cautiously, and efficiently navigate work environment that may include large industrial machinery, heavy equipment and product, elevated and uneven surfaces, and heights, and moving forklifts.
- Frequent reaching to various levels and directions to move/stack boxes of product, move product on and off hangers, rails and carts and stock product on display racks/shelves.
- Possess dexterity for complex hand-eye tasks, including keyboarding and merchandise ticketing/movement activities.
- Continuous standing, frequent walking, stooping, bending and twisting and occasional kneeling needed to stack and/or stock product(s) on display racks.
