The Manager, Provider Contracting Network Management serves as an integral member of the Provider Contracting Team and reports to the AVP, Provider Contracting. POSITION REQUIREMENTS

UPMC Digestive Health Care is hiring a full-time Authorization Specialist to join their team at Shadyside Medical Building, Pittsburgh! In this position, you will work Monday-Friday, daylight hours.

**Purpose:**
To perform authorization activities of inpatient, outpatient and emergency department patients, denial management and all revenue functions. Need to demonstrate, through actions, a consistent performance standard of excellence to which all work is to conform. The expertise of the Authorization Specialist shall include working knowledge in the area of authorization related activities including pre-authorizations, notifications, edits, denials, etc. The Authorization Specialist shall demonstrate the philosophy and core values of UPMC in the performance of duties.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Reviews and interprets medical record documentation for patient history, diagnosis, and previous treatment plans to pre-authorize insurance plan determined procedures to avoid financial penalties to patient, provider and facility.

+ Provides referral/pre-notification/authorization services timely to avoid unnecessary delays in treatment and reduce excessive nonclinical administrative time required of providers.
+ Submits pertinent demographic and supporting clinical data to payor to request approval for services being rendered.
+ Maintains compliance with departmental quality standards and productivity measures.

**GENERAL OVERVIEW**
Performs prescribed MRI imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment and initiative.
**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits and reports scan results. (50%)
+ Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. (25%)
+ When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. (15%)
+ Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. (10%)
+ Performs other duties as assigned or required.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Minimum**
+ Associate's Degree; or Certification from a technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Radiography Certification (R) ) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification and Registration (N) or Radiation Therapy Certification and Registration (RT)through American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) or any American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification
+ Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Certification through ARRT or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (ARMRIT) is required within 18 months of hire. - Employees in a MRI role (prior to July, 1 2022) who do not have a MRI certification are not required to obtain them; employees in a MRI role with existing MRI certification are required to maintain active certifications. Employees hired, or transferred into the MRI role after July 1, 2022 are also required to maintain active certifications.
