**What you'll do.**
+ Work cross-functionally with leadership and fellow designers within Digital Product Design to establish and codify the "Look and feel" of the Ford and Lincoln digital experiences
+ Work to define, create, and guide standards for visual and motion design - including developing the visual and motion design guidelines/standards for Digital Product Design

Plymouth District Library is located in busy downtown Plymouth, MI, midway between Detroit and Ann Arbor. We serve the Plymouth Community which is comprised of 36,650 residents living in the City of Plymouth and the Charter Township of Plymouth, as well as the patrons of 75 Detroit-area libraries through a reciprocal borrowing agreement facilitated by The Library Network.

The library serves as a significant community hub and maintains strong partnerships with local and regional community groups, governments, schools, businesses, and cultural organizations. Plymouths rich history has included the library for nearly 100 years. Strong community support has resulted in a dedicated perpetual millage, a robust Friends organization, and more than 100 adult volunteers. As a Vice President, Visual Designer specializing in Design Systems, you will play a critical role in shaping the visual language of the enterprise design systems for the Private Bank. You will collaborate closely with the design systems team, product designers, engineers, and other cross-functional partners to create, maintain, and evolve scalable design systems. The work you do will drive efficiency, quality, and cohesion across our platforms. Your expertise in visual design, component creation, and documentation will ensure our products are not only visually compelling but also accessible, inclusive, and easy to use. You will be a champion for design standards, advocating for best practices and helping teams deliver seamless, high-quality user experiences at scale.

What You'll Do

  • Create, document, and maintain visual components, patterns, and styles within the design system.
  • Evolve and refine the visual language to ensure consistency, scalability, and alignment with brand guidelines.
  • Identify gaps and propose new components or patterns to address emerging needs.
  • Collaborate closely with product designers, engineers, and cross-functional partners to ensure design system adoption and integration.
  • Facilitate onboarding and provide guidance to teams on design system best practices.
  • Audit and review product interfaces to ensure adherence to design system standards.
  • Advocate for visual consistency, accessibility, and inclusive design across all digital products.
  • Maintain high standards for visual quality, usability, and accessibility.
  • Develop clear, comprehensive documentation for components, patterns, and usage guidelines.
  • Communicate design rationale and system updates to stakeholders and the broader design community.
  • Present and articulate design decisions to cross-functional teams and leadership.
  • Gather feedback from users and stakeholders to inform ongoing improvements to the design system.
  • Stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices in visual design and design systems.
  • Contribute to a culture of learning, mentorship, and design excellence within the organization.

Our Desired Profile
  • Degree in relevant design discipline (e.g., Interaction Design, HCI, User Experience Design), certification from credible bootcamp or similar accelerated learning program, or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of enterprise, system-level or design systems experience
  • Ability to synthesize complex, interdependent, and sometimes competing needs
  • Demonstrated experience with user-centered and human-centered design approaches
  • Prior work involves collaboration within design teams (with other designers, UX researchers, and content designers) and cross-functionally with software engineers
  • Demonstrates strong Interaction Design and Visual/UI skills
  • Proficiency in adjacent skills such as Information Architecture, User Research, UX Writing, and Prototyping
  • Able to show how their understanding of technical constraints and opportunities informed design solutions; familiar with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Advocate for Accessibility Guidelines and Inclusive Design practices
