Ecologists Without Borders ( EcoWB) is a volunteer-led, science driven organization of concerned ecologists and activists who are taking a novel approach to service. We connect skilled professionals to verified eco-projects, providing the guidance, infrastructure, and knowledge needed for small organizations to create environmental solutions for their communities.
The outreach committee welcomes new project makers and project supports, generally overseeing the management of EcoWB partnerships. There is a diverse range of assignments for skilled volunteers, depending on your specialty and interest.
We are accepting applications from those with 1 year plus of outreach, communication, or project coordination experience, as well as any outgoing trained ecologists.
Positions are flexible, requiring as little as five hours/month of service for participating in committee business.
We are meeting and operating within Western Hemisphere timezones.
As we continue to grow our organization and build capacity, we are looking to train the next generation of EcoWB volunteers to help us organize a close-knit global network of scientists and project makers. You may specialize in supporting our developing projects, working with consulting firms, or our partnership agreements.
Members attend a monthly meeting and have regular communications with the Co-Chairs. You will co-design one or more monthly assignments with us which you may choose to accept, depending on your availability.

Justice Advisory Committee
Purpose: The FASD United Justice Advisory Committee is charged with addressing issues related to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) within the legal system. Its goal is to raise awareness among judges, lawyers, and other justice professionals about the challenges faced by individuals with FASD when interacting with the justice system. The committee also advocates for appropriate accommodations and interventions to be implemented. Additionally, it provides advice and recommendations to the Board of Directors and staff of FASD United concerning FASD-related justice issues and reform.
Type of Committee: Advisory
Reports to: FASD United Board of Directors
Staff Relationship: The Chief Executive Officer shall provide support staff to the Committee upon request.
Committee Composition: The Justice Advisory Committee shall have up to 15 members, including non-Board members. It is chaired by a FASD United Board member and/or their designee. Non-board members are recruited by FASD United staff and/or Board members and must be approved by the chairs of the Committee and the Board of Directors. Members include professionals such as judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, law enforcement officers, social workers, probation officers, mental health professionals providing diagnostic or support services to individuals with FASD, FASD experts, and individuals living with FASD.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Awareness: Educate legal and justice system professionals about the characteristics and impacts of FASD, including decision-making difficulties, impulsivity, and challenges understanding legal proceedings. Provide advice regarding justice-related issues.
- Policy Development: Develop policies and procedures tailored to individuals with FASD, such as specialized screening tools and alternative sentencing options. Make recommendations to the FASD United Policy Committee and the Board of Directors.
- Collaboration: Work with organizations like FASD advocacy groups, mental health providers, and social service agencies to ensure comprehensive support for individuals with FASD involved in the legal system.
Service on this committee is voluntary and assigned upon referral with approval from the Board of Directors.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The chief responsibility of the Administrative Committee (AdCom) Chair is to ensure that the decision-making processes of the Administrative Committee are fair, procedurally sound, efficient, sensitive to the member, and well documented. The AdCom Chair must train AdCom members, make necessary preparations before each meeting, attend all AdCom meetings, AdCom screening meetings, and AdCom appeals meetings.
Specific Duties
- Chair all meetings of one AdCom and Administrative Appeals Body.
- Ensure meetings are run according to policy while maintaining confidentiality and respect for members and their situations.
- Meet with the Operations Manager and Administrative Member Advisor and together form the AdCom schedule for the semester.
- Prepare for AdCom meetings:
- a. In collaboration with the Administrative Member Advisor, ensure all cases are prepared for AdCom meetings.
- b. Fulfill screening committee responsibilities.
- C. Review the policy sections which may apply to the cases that will be heard.
- d. Notify members of the outcome of their request and appeal rights (if applicable) via email no later than 24 hours after the meeting.
- AdCom Appeals Body training:
- Obtain training in meeting facilitation and group dynamics, sensitivity, etc.
- Obtain a strong understanding of BSC parliamentary procedure, by-laws, policies (with an emphasis on those in the Administrative Code), and relevant general practices.
- Read exit documents, and review the minutes from the previous semester.
- Update the training documents.
- Participate in appeal screenings and/or appeals as required by policy.
- Attend portions of Board, Cabinet, and IACom meetings as required by policy and when otherwise necessary.
- Forward to the VPIA recommendations for policy changes whenever the need for such a change becomes apparent, e.g. when AdCom finds the need to make an exception.
- Compile and publish an exit document for the next AdCom Chair and attach all training materials.
- Along with the Operations Manager, maintain statistics of AdCom case requests and decisions. Make statistics available to IACom as outlined in policy.
HOURS/PAY: This is a 5-hour/week position, compensated with a rent credit stipend equivalent to $22.00/hour. Please note, this job does not fulfill the workshift requirement for residents at either the houses or apartments. If for whatever reason this job begins mid-semester, the stipend will be prorated.

Purpose: The Retirement Plan Committee serves as referenced in the governing document of the Unitarian Universalist Organizations Retirement Plan, administering the Plan according to its terms, interpreting the Plan terms, resolving questions and ambiguities arising under the Plan, and enforcing the terms of the Plan. Reviews and approves such summaries of Plan provisions, operational policies, or other rules or procedures that it deems to be necessary or desirable to the proper administration of the Plan. Establishes and maintains an Investment policy statement and has full discretionary power to consider and recommend to the UUA Board such Plan amendments, investment options, service providers (including Recordkeeper, investment manager, etc.) as it deems necessary or desirable. Complies with IRC reporting and disclosure requirements.
Key responsibilities:
- Administering the Plan according to its terms, interpreting the Plan terms, resolving questions and ambiguities arising under the Plan, and enforcing the terms of the Plan.
- Establishing and maintaining an investment policy statement for the Plan; appointing, monitoring, and removing investment options and funds and deciding investment-menu-related questions under the Plan;
- Appointing, monitoring, and removing vendors and service providers including the Recordkeeper;
- Providing timely reports to the UUA Board of Trustees on the number of participants, the performance of the investment options, and the financial condition of the Plan.
- Other duties as stated in the UU Organizations Retirement Plan document.
Skills needed: Current experience, preferably at a senior level, in retirement plan management, investment management, finance, human resource management, or related fields which require compliance with extensive federal law and regulations.
Length of term: For regular members, two years, normally beginning July 1, with reappointment allowed three times for a maximum of eight years. The Treasurer and Financial Advisor serve ex officio.
Meetings: The Committee shall meet as necessary, but no fewer times than twice per year. Meetings may occur in-person, by phone or video conference.
Length of Meetings: Two full days, annually, minimum. Typically the committee meets quarterly: alternating a 6-8 hour meeting with a 2 - 4 hour meeting, depending upon the agenda and venue for the meeting (in-person, via video conference, etc.)
Additional important info: The Unitarian Universalist (UU) Organizations Retirement Plan is an IRS qualified 401(a)/401(k) defined contribution, multiple employer, church retirement plan.
