The Controller / Senior Accountant at Payabli is an important operational role where you will
lead core accounting operations, financial reporting, billing and financial compliance
functions. You will bring a strong technical foundation from public accounting, coupled with
hands-on experience in a high-growth operating environment. You will play a key role in
supporting strategic decision-making, maintaining financial rigor, and helping scale the
finance function as the company grows. You can expect to collaborate with teammates across
Operations, Billing, and Finance.
In this Controller / Senior Accountant role, you will:
- Core Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Prepare internal and external financial statements, including variance analyses and key financial metrics
- Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
- Operational Finance
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations including AR, AP, payroll, revenue recognition, and reconciliations
- Partner cross-functionally with product, operations, billing and legal teams to ensure financial accuracy across payments, settlements, and fee structures
- Support cash management, treasury, and working capital initiatives
- Compliance & Audit
- Lead all future external audit, tax, and regulatory filings, working with third-party partners as needed
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, and manage the
- relationship with tax advisors
- Maintain documentation to support audit readiness and financial transparency
- Scaling & Systems
- Evaluate and implement new financial systems and tools to support automation and
- reporting
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency within finance workflows
- Assist in the preparation of investor materials, budgets, and forecasts
- Required:
- Active or previous CPA license
- 7+ years of total experience, including at least 4+ years in public accounting (Big 4 or national firm strongly preferred)
- 2+ years in-house at a high-growth operating company (fintech, SaaS, or payments experience strongly preferred) with strong understanding of payments issuing and acquiring money flow
- Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems) and workforce management software like Rippling
- Experience with managing / processing payroll, benefits, sales commissions, bonuses, vendor payments, corporate cards, and expense management
- Experience navigating state and federal taxes and registrations
- Excellent Excel / financial modeling skills
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a proactive, problem-solving mindset

Compensation
Base Pay Range: $250,000 - $350,000
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of our total awards approach to compensation which is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses or incentives.

Job DescriptionGeneral Purpose:
- Perform accounting and clerical duties related to the efficient maintenance and processing of accounts payable transactions.
Key Tasks and
Responsibilities:
- Assemble, review, and verify invoices and check requests
- Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and issues
- Confirm approval on all invoices and check requests, and obtain approvals as needed
- Sort, code, and match invoices, and attach invoices to receivers
- Audit and verify expense reports
- Enter and upload invoices and expense reports into system
- Review and post invoices in the system
- Set invoices up for payment and confirm payments are in compliance with corporate policies and procedures
- Prepare and process wires, electronic payments, and checks
- Download vendor database to confirm system terms match agreed-upon terms for each supplier
- Reconcile vendor statements to AP aging, contact vendors for missing items as needed, respond to vendor inquiries, and create and maintain strong vendor relationships
- Maintain vendor files
- Assist with month-end closing
- Provide supporting documentation for audits
- Special projects as assigned
Skills and Attributes:
- Knowledge of Accounts Payable
- Able to prioritize, to multi-task in a fast paced environment, and to meet deadlines
- Must be proficient in data entry
- Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new programs quickly
- Proficient with Excel and Outlook; ERP system experience preferred
- Must have an eye for detail
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to be an effective team member and display initiative
Experience: 4+ years' experience in accounts payable in a fast-paced environment preferred

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $21.50 to $24.00 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 96 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.This position requires use of information or access to production processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations (including, but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)).
