Responsibilities

  • Monday - Friday 7am - 3pm rotating Saturdays 7am - 9am
  • Provides case management services which support a positive treatment outcome
  • Serves as therapist in IOP and continued care groups, as well as provide individual therapy as needed for SUD and/or mental health disorders
  • Organizes and makes educational presentations related to behavioral health and recovery
  • Develop patient-centered treatment plans based on results from the screening tools and bio psychosocial assessment
  • Collaborates with medical staff and treatment team as a whole
  • Consults with family members and referral sources in order to coordinate patient care
  • Ensures adequate case management services are identified and addressed
  • Responsible for maintaining electronic health records which include documentation of treatment activity and progress
  • Ensures that patient records are accurate, comprehensive and meets regulatory standards
Qualifications
  • Strong clinical, verbal, and writing skills

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working in the SUD field. Group treatment experience preferred, but not required

  • Knowledgeable and well-versed in various recovery modalities, including SMART Recovery, Women for Sobriety, 12-Step, Recovery Dharma, Harm Reduction, etc.
  • If disclosed that the staff member is in recovery from a substance use disorder a minimum of three years of continuous sobriety is required - five years is preferred

POSITION SUMMARY
The Addiction Counselor is responsible and accountable for the delivery of contracted substance use disorder services in the facilities within the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority. Primary duties include the screening and assessment of psychiatric, medical, social services, employment and residential needs, as well as, risk factors for re-incarceration as soon as possible after the individual's admission to jail. Addiction Medicine (AM) Counselors provide engagement, counseling, and case management services to members that are struggling with substance use disorders. Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and apply the programs' clinical philosophy
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of substance abuse diagnosis, treatment, and prevention: counseling and interviewing techniques: the dynamics of interpersonal relationships, and community resources/programs
  • Masters Degree and two (2) years experience
  • Preferred License, Possession of CAADC 
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple requests and duties

As an Addiction Counselor , you will provide individuals opportunity for recovery management so they can live and work independently in their home community.

In a typical week of a counselor, you will complete level of care screenings and assist in developing integrated service plans. You will provide short-term individual, family, and group counseling. You will provide crisis intervention and risk assessments in the office, and in the community. Also, you will provide education and consult to families, community, interns, and residents.

You will thrive in this position, if you are committed to a rehabilitative and person-centered philosophy and comfortable providing services in homes and communities. Services are provided in homes and communities, and therefore, travel is a norm.

To be considered for the Addiction Counselor position , you are required to have a bachelor's degree in Addiction Counseling, Addiction Studies, Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology, AND have current licensure as an Addiction Counselor (LAC) by the North Dakota Board of Addiction Counseling Examiners.

This position requires a valid driver's license and successful completion of the assigned defensive driving course during new-hire orientation.

Job Description

The Licensed Addiction Counselor provides one on one drug and alcohol consultation to patients/clients; along with individual and group therapy in a variety of settings including inpatient and outpatient programs. The Licensed Addiction Counselor also provides crisis intervention and assists with behavioral health needs and issues including mental illness, developmental and learning disabilities, substance use, etc.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work or public health required
  • Current license or certificate in addictions/substance abuse counseling in the state of assignment required
  • Experience in behavioral health guidelines, to include behavioral health assessments, individual and group therapy, clinical management of patients with mental illness and / or substance abuse issues preferred
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
