POSITION INFORMATION

Under the general supervision of the Director of Collection Management Services, the Cataloging Librarian is responsible for creating and maintaining a current catalog of the Library’s collection which describes the Library’s holding and provides accurate access for users

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Maintains current and accurate catalog of the Library’s collection

  • Catalogs library materials, original and copy, including description, classification, subject analysis and authority work demonstrating thorough understanding of Cataloging policies and procedures in order to exercise independent judgments in decisions.
  • Performs original and copy cataloging for all formats, including print, non-print, and digital resources - ensuring compliance with national and local standards, such as, MARC21, RDA, AACR2, CONSER, NACO, LCSH, OCLC, and LC cataloging and classification practices and other appropriate cataloging and metadata standards.
  • Coordinates cataloging processes, procedures and statistics, participating with library colleagues in developing use of appropriate standards and quality assurance workflows for all collections.
  • Searches bibliographic databases and utilizes the record creation and maintenance features.
  • Creates and modifies local holdings and item records interpreting various national and local policies and procedures.
  • Performs continuous review of the catalog and its authority databases to implement changes and maintenance of data.
  • Performs retrospective conversion of designated materials.
  • Prepares related statistics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Assists the Director of Collection Management Services in coordinating work activities of other Cataloging staff

  • Proof reads work performed by Cataloging Department staff.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • A graduate degree from a school accredited by the American Library Association or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Broad knowledge of cataloging and metadata workflows and services; knowledge of MARC21, RDA, AACR2, CONSER, NACO, LCSH, and LC classification.

Position Overview

AJU seeks a highly motivated and detail-oriented on-site Digital Librarian at an exciting time as the University rapidly grows its online degree programs and redesigns its digital library. This role is crucial in ensuring seamless access to AJU’s rich collection of digital resources for our diverse community of students, faculty and staff. The Digital Librarian is a key contact for patrons, and will provide digital access support, training, and troubleshooting, while fostering relationships and improving digital services. As an integral part of the Office of Library Services team, the Digital Librarian will report to the Library Director, and has the potential of moving quickly into an Assistant Library Director role.

Duties include supporting the University’s teaching, learning, research and community activities by building out our digital collection and managing the lifecycles of the library’s electronic resources, including databases, online journals, ebooks, audiobooks and digital archives. Through external monitoring of trends in libraries and digital services, this position is vital to the development of the library’s future, while supporting the day-to-day functions of the Office of Library Services.

Responsibilities:

Digital Resource Management & Access:

  • Database Access & Configuration: Ensure all research databases are accessible to students, faculty, and staff. This includes working with vendors like EZproxy and OCLC.
  • Broken Link Resolution: Proactively identify and fix broken links within the library's online resources, particularly within the WorldCat Discovery platform's Collection Manager
  • WorldCat Discovery Optimization: Work to ensure AJU's records are accurately and visibly represented in the public-facing WorldCat.org, leveraging the existing SCELC subscription to WorldCat Discovery.
  • Holdings Management: Understand and support the automatic synchronization of AJU's holdings with WorldCat
  • Subscription Management & Renewal:
    • Manage and track subscriptions for various database providers, such as EBSCONET
    • Oversee subscriptions through the SCELC consortium: Conduct quick audits of database offerings such as JSTOR to identify underutilized resources and potential overlaps.
    • Collaborate with vendors on renewal strategies, pricing, and expanded access programs.
  • Open Access Integration: Explore and implement methods to integrate open access materials, particularly in Education, Jewish Education and Jewish Studies, into WorldCat/WMS for discoverability by patrons. This includes assessing the viability of keeping records for unsubscribed resources.
  • E-journal and e-book Acquisition and Access Optimization:
    • Work with vendors to acquire e-materials, and with OCLC to ensure online access to e-journals and e-books, so that they are correctly linked and displayed. This involves understanding Local Holding Records (LHR) and how they impact public display.

Patron Support & Engagement:

  • Digital Resource Training: Create comprehensive guides, presentations, and videos to educate students, faculty, and staff on effectively utilizing digital sources, databases, and the library catalog (OCLC WMS). Develop materials for Canvas integration and specific academic programs, and visit online classrooms to teach digital library usage and answer questions.
  • Interlibrary Loan (ILL): Assist patrons with interlibrary loan requests, checking the "Pull List" and "Interlibrary Loan" tabs in WorldShare, and guiding them on OCLC policies and services.
  • Proactive Communication: Send out regular email reminders to faculty and students about available resources, how to search digital shelves, and how to request digital and items from storage.
  • Websites: Ensure library websites and social media are up to date and accurate
  • Curriculum Support: Collaborate with faculty to identify and provide relevant digital resources for specific courses and programs
  • Reference and Guidance: Guide patrons to open access resources, including prominent Jewish studies repositories like Sefaria.

Operational & Administrative Tasks:

  • Library Catalog Management: Utilize the WorldShare Management Services (WMS) platform for all cataloging and administrative tasks.
  • Usage Statistics: Collect and report usage statistics for IPEDS reporting from various platforms (EBSCO, JSTOR, OCLC etc.) by logging into admin panels or requesting reports from vendor contacts.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other library staff, faculty, and administrative staff on student and faculty research support. Assist Library Director with planning projects and developing and documenting library processes

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; prefer Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program

SALARY

The current starting salary for this position is $41,200 per the Unit 8 contractual agreement. This position is nonexempt, overtime pay is entitled when available.

The Teaching and Learning Librarian with a focus in open education will help lead and shape the Library's efforts to support and develop the work of open education across the Auraria Campus. This position will participate in outreach and develop structures to deepen relationships between Auraria Library and those involved in open education initiatives and course materials affordability. This position also participates in instruction and research help services to support researchers at every level of the campus community.
As a Library faculty member, the librarian participates on Library and campus-wide committees and in CU Denver faculty governance. This position engages in fulfilling the education and research mission of the Auraria Library and the three institutions on the Auraria Campus - the University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Community College of Denver. This position is in the Research, Learning, and User Services Division of the Library and reports to the Scholarly Research Services Program Lead Librarian.
**Teaching and Learning Librarian**
**What you will do:**
_Research Support_
+ Provides leadership and support for Auraria Library's open education initiatives in collaboration with campus stakeholders.
+ Collaborates with colleagues and stakeholders to assess, implement, and maintain platforms and tools that support the creation and use of OER.
+ Monitors and educates internal and external stakeholders on developments in OER, including trends, legislation, public policy, and best practices.
+ Advises faculty, researchers, and students on intellectual property rights, including copyright, fair use, author rights, and open access.
+ Delivers Research Help services across a large, complex, and rapidly changing information landscape. This includes providing support at the Ask Us Desk, delivering research consultations in-person and online, and virtual services (IM, email, etc.).
_Instruction_
+ Serves on the Library's Instruction Team and facilitates instruction sessions (face-to-face and online) in a broad range of disciplines to undergraduate and graduate students.
+ Creates and maintains web guides, tutorials, and other digital learning objects.
+ Develops instructional partnerships around open education topics with campus stakeholders.
_Outreach_
+ Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders across campus aligned with open education, including internal and external stakeholders such as the open educational resource committees, faculty development offices, faculty learning communities, etc.

**Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)**
+ Master's degree in library and/or information science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited or equivalent accrediting body program.
+ Experience and/or coursework related to open education topics (OER, publishing models, licensing, copyright, open pedagogy, etc.).

**Position Summary**
Reporting to the Head of Electronic & Continuing Resources, the Electronic Resources Librarian coordinates the day-to-day management of the electronic resources workflow. The Electronic Resources (ER) Librarian works closely with others on the ECR team, with the Resource Description team, and others to develop e-resources-related policies, procedures, and practices. The ER Librarian coordinates the collection of usage statistics for electronic resources; develops policies around licensed electronic resources accessibility; manages two direct reports; and assists in developing discovery methods by collaborating with other units within the division and in other divisions and departments.

+ Contribute to licensing, purchase, maintenance, access, renewal or cancellation workflows, analysis and decisions related to e-resource management.
+ Develop and maintain standard and emerging access paths and workflows.
+ Improve user access and discovery to e-resources by anticipating and resolving issues with remote access and authentication products, removing barriers in license and access models, and introducing new technologies.
+ Create, audit, and analyze the accessibility of our licensed e-resources and advocate with vendors for compliance with existing standards.
+ Development and implement local workflows, documentation, and record-keeping practices for electronic resources management.
+ Oversee the collection of e-resources usage statistics and collaborate with stakeholders across libraries to synthesize data and develop meaningful insights for local decision-making and assessment efforts.
