Brendan Dunne, a career Special Operations veteran and retired Army officer who has led high performing cross functional teams the past 20 years in the country’s premier national mission force. He was most recently in charge of US Special Operations Command’s Global Analytics Platform (aka the GAP), one of DoD’s leading technology platforms.
Toby Smith, well known in the Pittsburgh Tech community for his engineering leadership and design skills, and who has led many of the most ambitious and complex system infrastructure projects in Google Pittsburgh and NetApp.
Here is a note from Andrew Moore to people who are reading these Job Postings:
“Hi folks, I’m so glad you are potentially interested in Lovelace AI. This area means a lot to me because while I am an AI optimist, I also think that we technologists owe it to a rightly skeptical world to show that modern intelligent systems can actually be useful. Usefulness comes in many guises: from life sciences to education and from transportation to entertainment and many others. For many of us, security and public safety is also very high on that list. That reasoning leads to this conclusion: I’m determined to make sure that the people building Lovelace AI gain a lot from the experience, including the chance to solve fascinating problems in computer science, AI, business development, customer success and product management. I also hope that we all learn from each other in a highly enriching work environment. But my main hope is that we have a shared sense of accomplishment as we see an increasing number of national security and public safety domains made safer through sensible and robust use of advanced computer science."

Job Description
Matic is bringing families out of the stone age of remarkably dumb disc home robots. Humanity spends ~2.5 trillion hours annually on home chores, worth $25 trillion in wasted economic value. We are on a mission to recapture this time and value with fully autonomous, useful, elegant, and affordable Wall-E-esque home robots that families love and cannot fathom their lives without.
Our approach
In 2017, we observed 200+ self-driving car startups and an equal number of industrial robotics startups, but the home autonomy and robotics space had been dramatically overlooked. While AI is becoming more ubiquitous, families are still stuck spending dozens of hours per week on repetitive household chores.
At Matic, we're leveraging advanced technology to address this problem. We've started by reimagining our first product in fully autonomous floor-cleaning robots. Just like consumers adopted Cell Phones, then PDAs, then iPods and Blackberries before adopting the iPhone to replace all, we believe that consumers will adopt single-purpose, elegant, and affordable robots that belong and become part of their homes first before we get one-robot-to-rule all chores.
Our goal is to continue automating other forms of household labor, shipping useful, affordable, and privacy-first robots to our users that solve real problems while building iteratively toward more complex tasks and capabilities over time.
Privacy first
Our robots are also private by design, with all the computes on the edge device. We believe that families shouldn't have to jeopardize their privacy just to get some help with the constant drudgery of home chores.
Who we are
We are a consumer robotics product companysolving real customer problems. We start with a problem, think of an elegant solution in the form of robots, and conduct necessary research to build products that just work. We believe families want solutions to their problems, and AI & robots enable us to solve them.
Who we are NOT We are NOT a Robotics Foundation Model research lab, a humanoid builder, or a robotics software platform company. We build fully autonomous, useful, elegant, and affordable Wall-E-esque robotic products that kids, pets, and families love!
About the role
We're looking for a UX Designer to support our growing app experience. You'll collaborate closely with our lead designer, engineers, and leadership team to improve usability, design new features, and evolve the overall customer journey. This is a rare opportunity to work hands-on across the product lifecycle-from wireframes to visual polish-while contributing to a physical + digital product in the robotics space.
What you'll do:
- Design intuitive, thoughtful app experiences, including feature flows, onboarding, and UI refinements
- Create wireframes, user flows, mockups, and lightweight prototypes (primarily in Figma)
- Help maintain and evolve our design system for mobile (iOS/Android), ensuring consistency and usability
- Collaborate with engineering to ensure high-quality implementation
- Support user research efforts and turn insights into actionable design improvements
- Contribute to support- and marketing-facing UX moments (e.g. in-app messages, setup flows, empty states)
- 0-2 years of experience in UX, product, or interaction design (internships and bootcamp experience welcome)
- Portfolio that shows clear thinking, good visual instincts, and real-world UX process
- Proficiency with Figma, including working with components and design systems
- Interest in interaction design and how motion, timing, and feedback improve usability
- Basic understanding of usability principles and mobile platform patterns
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Bonus: basic animation skills (especially using Lottie), or experience working on physical/digital products
Matic is a tight-knit and collaborative team, singularly focused on building products our customers will cherish. We're ultra-hardworking people committed to solving tough problems that save our precious time and energy.
At Matic, we're eager to take risks and test convention. We love diving headfirst into hard problems - even if it means some failures along the way. We work smart, hard, and long (in that order), chasing innovation and human impact. We highly value individual ownership and take meticulous pride in the work we do, knowing our efforts affect both one another and our customers.
Those who value curiosity and learning and who don't shy away from hard problems thrive at Matic. If you are genuinely committed to innovation and improving the lives of others, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply
If you're feeling excited about this opportunity at Matic, then apply, even if you don't feel that you meet every single requirement. We're eager to meet people who are keen to learn and are passionate about what Matic is building. We want to hear how you can contribute to our team in a variety of ways - not just the above boxes.

Experience creating analytical dashboards.Since our focus is on data (finance, marketing, ops etc). Would be good to have candidates that have those types of projects under their belt.Sketch 3-5 years hands-on experience.Considering the majority of projects are done in Sketch, it would be beneficial to focus on these candidates.Figma 3-5 years hands-on experience. We are slowly pivoting to Figma, but it's potentially a multi-year shift. Some projects will probably stay in Sketch indefinitely, as the ROI for moving them to Figma is not great.Data-Visualization Experience. If candidates claim to have data visualization experience, they should provide a clickable prototype or example to back it up.Min 3 Case Studies.Clearly outline all steps taken to bring the project to life.Ability to work within an existing design system or create a new one. They need to be able to tell a difference between components, nested symbols, overrides etc. That only comes with knowledge.Min Advanced English.Ideally have a lot of experience working with stakeholders. At least 1 complex data-visualization project (optional). This would be an ideal candidate. Someone that took ownership and was in charge of a major project A-Z. (Not a deal breaker if they don't but definitely a plus if they do).
