The Molecular Assay Development team is seeking an accomplished (Senior) Scientist to join our team within the Cellular Therapy Analytical Development (CTAD) organization. The (Senior) Scientist will act as a mentor and leader within a team of scientists who are collectively responsible for molecular biology-based QC and characterization methods supporting autologous and allogeneic cell therapies. These methods will be used to further the understanding of cell therapies, support development of the manufacturing processes, and QC release of the drug product. This position is responsible for the technology platform screening, development, qualification, and transfer of molecular biology-based analytical methods; as well as the life-cycle management of these methods. The (Senior) Scientist will have extensive hands-on experience in assay development; possess excellent communication skills; and be able to work with cross-functional teams in order to effectively transfer analytical methods, as well as maintain and troubleshoot existing methods.


Key Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and qualify molecular-based analytical methods, including multiplex PCR-based assays using qPCR, RT-qPCR, ddPCR, to support pipeline cell therapies.
• Provide leadership and mentorship within a team responsible for assessing new technology, developing molecular biology-based analytical methods, and managing method lifecycle.
• Prepare complex technical documents, including SOPs, test methods, study protocols, and reports.
• Ensure successful transfer of assays to quality control (QC) and commercial teams as needed.
• Establish best practices for molecular biology-based methods by intended use and phase of testing.
• Develop strategies, lead studies, and implement changes to improve existing method performance in development and QC settings to support scalability and reduce resource burden.

Qualifications & Experience:

The Discovery Biology Department within the Oncogenesis (TRC) focuses on delivering Client cancer therapeutics by engaging E3 ubiquitin ligases for targeted protein degradation. We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist with strong background in tumor biology and understanding of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) to participate in the discovery of Client targeted protein degradation drugs for hematology and solid tumor oncology projects. The successful candidate will work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment to:

  1. Explore disease biology enabling identification of Client drug targets;
  2. Develop and implement robust cellular assays to support discovery of small molecules as clinical development candidates;
  3. Design and execute research strategies that further our understanding of the mechanisms of Client compounds and targets;
  4. Support for lab operations that will include assistance in maintaining the liquid nitrogen cell database and site compliance.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Work independently to design, execute, analyze, interpret and troubleshoot scientific experiments in molecular and cell biology, cellular biochemistry and assay development.
  • Contribute to computational analyses that leverage internal, public and partner datasets and empower data-driven decisions for new target prioritization and validation.
  • Accurately maintain written reports and present results in an organized and timely manner to research leadership.
  • Communicate effectively with peers and supervisors, foster teamwork and contribute to collaborative efforts.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive experience designing, implementing and analyzing compound effect using multiple platforms (multi-parameter flow cytometry, IncuCyte, Western blot, ELISA/MSD, and functional assays such as cytotoxicity, cell cycle and apoptosis) in the context of drug discovery is required.
  • Hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture using primary, single and/or co-culture cell models, including genetic manipulation techniques such as CRISPR RNP nucleofection and/or lentiviral transduction. Experience with 3D/organoid solid tumor models is a plus.
  • Experience with HTS screening and the use of automation instruments is desired.
  • Flexibility and interest in learning new techniques and skills in accordance with the research program needs.
  • Proficiency in scientific and data analysis programs including FlowJo, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad Prism is required.

Position Summary :

The Cao Lab ( at Carnegie Institution for Science, division of biosphere sciences and engineering ( ), located on the Caltech campus in Pasadena, CA. We seek one self-motivated and highly responsible research technician to join our team. Our lab focuses on the symbiosis between the insect-parasitic nematode Steinernema hermaphroditum and its mutualistic bacterium Xenorhabdus griffiniae . The technician aims to facilitate the development of genetic and synthetic biology tools to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying nematode-bacteria communication and explore their applications in biosphere engineering.

The selected candidates will be joining a start-up laboratory within a larger research community, with many opportunities to present their work and interact with Carnegie and Caltech. Dr. Cao is committed to the professional development of all hires, with opportunities available to participate in scientific writing, mentorship, and outreach activities. Depending on the funding availability, hires also may have opportunities to attend and present their research at conferences.

This is a full-time and wet-lab position offering a competitive salary and benefits. We are looking to fill this role starting in the summer of 2025. This position is one year with possibilities of extension based on performance and the availability of the position.

PSFC was born in 2017 out of a realization that psychedelic medicine has the potential to make an enormous impact and has an achievable path to regulatory approval, but has been systemically underfunded. Since PSFC’s founding, we have grown into a community of many of the leading funders of psychedelic medicine supporting organizations at the cutting edge of psychedelic research with funding and expert support.

We operate as a flexible network to:

  • Identify and evaluate high-impact funding opportunities in psychedelic medicine
  • Provide advisory support to scientists and organizations in the psychedelic field, including expertise in pharmaceutical development, organizational growth, and public communications

Position Overview and Responsibilities:

As the Director of Scientific Research and Partnerships, you will be responsible for building new partnerships with private and public institutions to establish Psychedelic Centers of Excellence for therapist training and clinical practice of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapies. You will foster personal connections with department chairs and heads of development at major Universities and healthcare institutions across the United States, as well as with donors who support those institutions. You understand how institutions work and are adept at navigating institutional politics and power structures. Additionally, you bring clinical expertise to the PSFC organization with practical experiences in clinical operations to strengthen our due diligence on clinical trial grant proposals.

As the ideal candidate for the role, you are a strategic thinker, a self-starter, and enjoy building and nurturing relationships. Passionate about psychedelic science, you have stellar communication skills and stay up to speed on trends and opportunities in the psychedelic field. And as a member of a small, dynamic organization, you are grounded, direct, clear, kind, and a team player.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Devise a partnership strategy to work with medical and academic institutions (e.g. Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, top universities, etc.) to build out psychedelic centers of excellence for clinical practice and training
  • Identify and source high-potential institutional prospects through research, strategic outreach, and relationship-building to cultivate new partnerships with academic researchers and institutions
  • Build trusted relationships and champion collaboration with stakeholders in psychedelic medicine
  • As a grantmaker, evaluate incoming grant proposals and provide due diligence on organizations conducting clinical trials
  • Evaluate Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs) on alignment with internal strategic priorities for clinical practice and training
  • Introduce IITs to sponsors who may be able to provide scientific input and or drug product
  • Connect IITs to sponsors who may be able to provide scientific input and/or drug product
  • Build a framework and engagement playbook for clinical partnerships
  • Manage tools to maintain a real-time snapshot of relationships and forecast future opportunities

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, partnership management, or management consulting

POSITION: Senior Research Associate, Translational Research, Oncology (non-PhD)

DEPARTMENT: Translational Research, Oncogenesis TRC

PREREQUISITES: Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline with at least 3 years work experience


Summary/Scope:
This Senior Research Associate /Senior Associate Scientist will join the Translational Development team in Oncogenesis Thematic Research Center (TRC) located in San Diego, California. The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of molecular cell biology, immunology, and oncology, with strong expertise in cell-based assay development and biomarker discovery.
The incumbent will be responsible for addressing questions of drug scheduling, supporting patient selection hypothesis, and developing clinical assays using current techniques and primarily in vitro and ex vivo methods; and is responsible for experiment design, execution, and data analysis and report for well-defined projects. The position will require handling and compound treatment of human tissues including whole blood, PBMC, bone marrow aspirates, tumor cell lines, and primary tumors. The incumbent will be expected to maintain an electronic lab notebook and organize results into reports or presentations. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, writing and record keeping, and presentation skills. The successful candidate will have a proven technical and scientific track record and experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.


Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Independently execute defined experiments, data analysis and data QC
  2. Design and conduct relevant molecular and cell-based assays to support MOA and translational research
  3. Analyze and present data in an organized and timely manner
  4. Thoughtful review of data and help plan next steps
  5. Work at the bench to design and execute established and Client molecular and cell-based assays for translational research
  6. Perform cell biology and molecular biology including primary and tumor cell culture, lentiviral transductions, RNA and protein preparation from cells and tissues, qRT-PCR, western blotting, and ELISA. Some training may be provided
  7. Hands-on experience in working with CRISPR, siRNA and shRNA is a plus. Training will be provided.
  8. May involve handling and processing patient-derived tissues and blood samples
  9. Collaborate effectively and cultivate positive and productive relationships with colleagues
  10. Participate in maintenance of routine laboratory instrumentation and supplies
  11. Adherence to laboratory safety policies and practices

The candidate should:

  1. Have a Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline with at least 3 years work experience
  2. Demonstrated proficiency in various molecular and cellular technologies including, but not limited to, sterile cell culture, cell-based assays (CTG, apoptosis), and molecular biology techniques (Protein, DNA and RNA isolations, Western blot, ELISA, qRT-PCR)
  3. Proficiency with multi-color flow cytometry techniques and analysis
  4. Possess troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to resolve technical questions in a multi-disciplinary environment
  5. Experience with high-throughput drug screening is a plus
  6. Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, GraphPad Prism, FlowJo
  7. Possess excellent communication, collaboration and organizational skills and attention to detail
  8. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; flexibility to adapt to changes with a positive attitude

CA pay transparency note for CA worker only: The starting hourly compensation for this assignment is a range from $39.37 - $50.00. While the final, individual compensation will be determined by your employer of record (and not Client), factors that will be included in making the final determination may include the characteristics of the assignment, such as demonstrated experience, required skill, and the geographic location where the job is performed. The starting hourly compensation may be subject to change.

Job Description:

Design, perform, document and interpret experiments to support analytical development objectives as part of the Vector Release Methods Team. The Vector Release Methods team expands virology knowledge and develops release and characterization analytical methods for viral vectors. Responsibilities include the development, optimization, execution, documentation and transfer of assays.

Education:

BS or MS in Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or relevant discipline; (PhD candidates OVERQUALIFIED)

Experience:

RA 1-3 years of lab experience with ELISA and nucleic acid-based techniques. SRA 3-5 years of lab experience with ELISA and nucleic acid-based techniques. Industrial experience preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Thorough understanding of basic protein, chemistry, and molecular biology techniques.
  2. Experience with ELISA, Western blot, HPLC, PCR
  3. Ability to carefully follow existing methods and SOPs.

Working Conditions (US Only):

The majority of time in this position will be spent in the laboratory, either sitting or standing. The employee may be required to lift ~20 pounds on rare occasions.
