**Job Description**
**Job Summary:**
Design, engineer and test chemical process systems and equipment used in industrial applications to include chemical plants, refineries, power plants, nuclear power plants and nuclear fuel processing plants and facilities. Specific experience working within the commercial and government (DOE) nuclear industry a strong plus. May serve as lead chemical/process engineer and/or may supervise other chemical engineering professionals. Will primarily work within project teams so must be skilled collaborating with multidiscipline engineering team, project, program and executive management and customers Prepares reviews and approves technical reports, makes product design changes and other specifications. Implements and oversee continual improvement of system and product designs while using standard engineering principles. Implements safety procedures, troubleshoots and improves existing processes for manufacturing using new technological theories, concepts and techniques. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected determine methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. May supervise the activities of others.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**
+ Compile Design Basis or Requirements documentation
+ Develop material and energy balances for chemical processes.
+ Prepare Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Utility Flow Diagrams (UFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
+ Perform equipment sizing calculations.
+ Perform line sizing and pressure drop calculations by hand &/or utilizing engineering incompressible and compressible fluid dynamic simulation software such as AFT Fathom and AFT Arrow
+ Develop datasheets and specifications as needed.
+ Conduct and/or support What-If analysis, HAZOP, PHA reviews & FMECA.
+ Perform calculations for sizing pressure relief devices such as relief valves and rupture discs per ASME and API 520 and control valves per ISA
+ Develop control concepts and coordinate with instrumentation & controls engineers.
+ Prepare Process Control Narratives (PCNs)
+ Prepare process engineering deliverables list and manhour requirements.
+ Train & mentor entry level and junior engineers in process design.
+ Coordinate with other engineering disciplines in developing project deliverables.
+ Support proposal development activities.
+ Support efforts to minimize rework and improve productivity.
**Supervisory Responsibilities**
This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide technical leadership to lower-level Engineers including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization's policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving technically related work problems.
**Qualifications**

+ 5-10 years of experience in chemical process engineering. Experience working within the nuclear industry and on DOE or DOD projects is a strong plus.
+ Lead process engineer experienced in developing preliminary, intermediate, and detailed process design packages.
+ Familiarity with current codes, standards, and good engineering practices in process design
+ Analytical skills to develop preliminary cost estimates for proposals.
+ Thorough knowledge of engineering principles and lead a team from conceptual design to detailed engineering.
+ Excellent communication and presentation skills.
+ Perform critical engineering document reviews and meet project schedule requirements.
**Education and/or** **Experience**
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field and a minimum of 5 Years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience or a Master's degree (M.S.) with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
+ **Experience with spectroscopy analysis, in particular inorganic chemical analysis using GC/MS.**
+ **Experience with separation and concentration of gaseous chemicals.**
+ **Experience with analytic method development, in particular analysis of inorganic chemicals using GC/MS.**
**Other Essential Duties**
+ Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.
**Other Skills and Abilities**
+ Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
+ Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen

  • Monitor key process indicators and generate performance reports.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical process engineering, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
  • Experience with P&ID development and hazard analysis techniques (PHA, HAZOP).
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and reaction kinetics.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

We are seeking a Chemical / Process Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will develop, maintain, and optimize our chemical finishing processes while ensuring safety, quality, and compliance with industry standards. This role is hands-on and requires close collaboration with production, quality, and environmental health & safety teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and improve electroplating, anodizing, conversion coating, and passivation processes.

  • Monitor and control chemical bath conditions, ensuring consistent performance and compliance with specifications.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve process issues related to adhesion, corrosion resistance, and finish quality.

  • Support audits and maintain compliance with NADCAP, ISO, AS9100D, and customer specifications.

  • Drive process improvements using Lean, Six Sigma, and data-driven problem solving.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations for chemical handling and waste treatment.

  • Document standard operating procedures, work instructions, and process records.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet production, quality, and cost goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in chemical or surface finishing processes (electroplating, anodizing, coatings, etc.).

  • Strong understanding of process control, bath chemistry, and troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with NADCAP, ISO, and AS9100 requirements preferred.

  • Knowledge of safety practices for handling hazardous chemicals.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work hands-on in a production environment.

Preferred Certifications (Not Required)

  • Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher).

  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).

  • OSHA / HAZWOPER or other EHS-related training.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
