As a Network Technician, you will install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and remove network components. The Network Technician will perform layouts, installations, terminations, labeling, testing's, and certifications of all associated cabling and ensures compliance with program, industry and base standards.

The likely salary range for this position is $59,500 - $80,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.

This position is for a Network Technician to support the Vanguard 2.2.1 program. The Vanguard 2.2.1 program provides transparent, interconnected systems and security support for the Department of State (DOS). This program supports the DOS to successfully carry out its U.S. foreign policy mission by providing enterprise architecture design, engineering operations and maintenance support services for desktop computers, servers, networks, firewalls, and enterprise applications. **Description of Duties:**
+ Evaluates, designs, documents, installs, implements, tests, and performs problem isolations and resolution, and monitors tunes, sets standards and maintains a range of network components and systems.
+ Performs these functions across some, but not all, physical media, Operating Systems, File Systems, protocol stacks and network components.
+ Provides client consulting and training on the design and use of the network systems and architectures.
+ Plans, researches, evaluates and recommends new storage area network equipment and related technologies.
+ Uses monitoring, performance analysis, network management, software and hardware equipment to troubleshoot and isolate problems, gauge performance and activity.
+ Devises solutions to operational problems within the capacity and operational limitations of installed equipment.
+ May develop and execute contingency plans for network related hardware failures, including isolated and major outages.
+ Provides internal consulting, technical guidance, information and support to application developers, computer operations, workstation support, management and departmental clients.
**Qualifications**
**Required Education & Experience:**
+ Bachelor degree in a computer science/computer engineering related discipline and 3-6 years IT network engineering support experience (Tier II, Tier III, network infrastructure implementation and maintenance). May accept additional or equivalent experience in lieu of bachelor's degree.
+ Intermediate experience in one or more of the following: Cisco Nexus, Cisco Catalyst routing and switching, data center cabling maintenance.
+ Experience supporting the configuration and maintenance of various network hardware and software, primarily Cisco catalyst and Cisco Nexus switching and routing technologies.
+ Firsthand experience in developing and providing quality assurance review of engineering change orders relating to the replacement or enhancement of perimeter security hardware and software.
+ Experienced with performing root cause analysis, risk identification, and risk mitigation.
+ Knowledge of cabling standards, fiber optic and copper cable termination.
+ Experienced with network monitoring devices such as HP Openview, Nagios, Zenoss, NeuralStar or other similar monitoring tools.
**Required Clearance:**

Under the direction of the Administrative Director II, Information Technology, design, configure, implement and troubleshoot LAN/WLAN, VOIP and telecommunications systems, ensure security and inter/intra network accessibility; provide assistance to staff and faculty regarding network issues; install, maintain and troubleshoot firewall and network security functions; monitor network and application performance to assure quality of service; remove and replace network equipment as required; install, and repair associated cabling and peripheral equipment; design, configure, implement and troubleshoot networking solutions and cybersecurity measures to ensure robust and secure network operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to associate's degree in computer science or related field and two years increasingly responsible experience in the installation and maintenance of routers, data network switches and associated software and peripheral equipment.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California Driver's License

As a Journeyman Network Technician, you will provide mid-level technical support for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network and cabling infrastructure. This role supports both Inside Plant (ISP) environments and network equipment deployments, playing a key role in enabling secure, high-performance communications and IT services. Working closely with network engineers, ISP / OSP technicians, and project managers, the Journeyman Network Technician is responsible for implementing structured cabling systems, installing network devices, performing connectivity testing, and resolving end-to-end infrastructure issues.

Position will be located at Los Angeles SFB.

This position is contingent upon successful contract award to V2X.

Responsibilities

Major Job Activities:

  • Assists engineers and technicians with placement of infrastructure components, pre-configuration.

  • Performs tasks involving physical labor at installation sites to aid daily operations.

  • Assists in movement of equipment, racks, boxes, and pallets. Assists in cleanup and restoration of facilities to preinstall conditions.

  • Dispose of waste materials.

  • Performs site preparation and implementation activities required to implement approved ISP / OSP solution.

  • Assists in the installation of ISP / OSP cabling, installation of racks / cabinets and equipment.

  • Follows processes and procedures provided by management or lead engineers.

  • May assist in test and validation activities as directed.

  • Performs cable dressing, labeling, and documentation.

  • Assists in restoration activities to return site to previous condition before project work.

  • Tracks task status to provide updates to management or lead engineers.

  • Updates reports or task logs as directed.

  • Work is performed under supervision but has capability to work independently to complete complex assignments; may provide guidance and direction to junior laborers or technicians.

Material & Equipment Directly Used:

  • Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, and AutoCAD drawings, specifically rack elevation drawings and floor plans to install data network equipment hardware, power supplies, UPS, and wireless access points.

  • Proficient with writing reports and updating data in MS Excel and Word.

Working Environment:

Office environment with potential to support austere locations.

Physical Activities:

Must be able to lift / carry 75 lbs.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications:

  • High School Diploma

Experience / Skills:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience performing as a Network Technician with a High School Diploma.

  • Experience supporting DoD projects, specifically network modernization projects.

Clearance Requirement:

  • This position requires an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret (Tier 3) level clearance.

Skills & Technology Used:

  • Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, and AutoCAD drawings, specifically rack elevation drawings and floor plans to install data network equipment hardware, power supplies, UPS, and wireless access points.

  • Proficient with writing reports and updating data in MS Excel and Word.
