Responsibilities:
- Direct the design, development, and/or improvement of manufacturing processes for assigned area
- Analyze and implement product or machinery designs for the best method for manufacturing processes
- Propose and evaluate the processes for equipment in assigned area
- Provide direction to small group of technical employees
- Evaluate or monitor expenditures for processes and/or equipment
- Interpret product math data and specifications to develop tools and equipment necessary to support the manufacturing process
- Propose and evaluate process, tool, and equipment designs
- Review and approve tool designs, release tools to build source, and oversee tool build & installation as required to meet business needs

During build events, 12-hour shifts, night shift support, and weekend support on alternating weekends may be required. During install and commissioning, similar shifts and support may be required.

Summary

The Manufacturing Machining Engineer Technician supports daily manufacturing operations with a focus on process efficiency/improvement, cost reduction, and quoting new work opportunities. This role involves CNC programming, tooling, prototyping, and process optimization for machining metals and alloys. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.

Functions

  • Supports daily operations in providing cost effective solutions

  • Develops and supports implementing error proofing in continuous improvement projects using root cause/corrective action tools

  • Writes, uploads, and proofs out CNC programs
  • Liaison for tooling and machining suppliers
  • Supports in process plans, BOM's, routings, purchasing requisitions, PFMEA, and safety initiatives
• Follows all safety, environment and quality procedures and instructions.

Requirements

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position that regularly requires at least 40 hours per week.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Preferred Associates in Technical Degree but not required

• Minimum of 3 years professional experience in manufacturing machining
  • Subject matter expertise in the following manufacturing processes:
    • CNC Milling and Turning (standard and multi axis)
    • Broaching, Shaping, Spline Rolling, and Hobbing
    • CNC Grinding (ID, OD, Centerless, Surface)
    • Heat Treatments
  • Machining experience with metals/alloys such as aluminum, steel, cast iron, powder/sintered metal
  • CAD/CAM experience
  • PPAP experience
  • Fixture designing (manual & hydraulic)
  • Problem solving techniques (six sigma, 8D, root cause analysis, PFMEA)
  • Proficient with interpretation and application of GD&T

Job Summary

The Manufacturing Development Engineer will support cost estimation and process development activities for machining and fabrication operations related to advanced vehicle platforms. The role involves developing manufacturing process documentation, assisting in cost model creation, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives for fabricated and machined components. This position will work cross-functionally with engineering, supply chain, and production teams to drive manufacturability and cost efficiency.

Essential Functions

Assist in developing and optimizing manufacturing processes for machining, fabrication, and welding.

Support creation of detailed cost models for fabricated and machined components.

Develop and maintain manufacturing work instructions and MBOMs using PLM tools such as Teamcenter.

Contribute to process planning, routing, and cycle time estimation for new and existing parts.

Collaborate with design engineering to support DFM improvements.

Perform basic make/buy analysis and assist in cost reviews during sourcing.

Support validation and documentation of new manufacturing processes.

Participate in production support and continuous improvement projects.

Work with quality and supply chain to resolve manufacturing-related issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

3-5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering focused on machining and/or fabrication.

Basic understanding of cost estimation techniques for fabricated and machined parts.

Working knowledge of machining processes, welding, forming, and general fabrication.

Familiarity with MBOMs, MRP/ERP systems, and PLM tools (e.g., Teamcenter).

Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings and apply GD&T principles.

Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other common desktop tools.

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.

Experience in digital manufacturing environments or with digital twins.

Familiarity with defense or heavy equipment manufacturing is a plus.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Ability to work in office and shop floor environments.
Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
Travel up to 25% as required.
