This Operating Company (OpCo) based position will lead the implementation of prevention-focused health, safety and environmental (HSE) and security program. The position will establish, execute and deliver OpCo-specific strategy that supports Sysco's overall HSE objectives, including security and crisis preparedness objectives.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ In cooperation with Operational management, develop health, safety and environmental (HSE) strategy in support of Corporate HSE and Security strategic goals.
+ Develop effective HSE plans designed to meet operational goals to reduce injuries, accidents, and incidents.
+ Effectively communicate HSE strategy and objectives with Senior Leadership.
+ Support site management in the implementation of HSE plans.
+ Design and implement effective metrics to track progress, proactively identify areas of concern and drive accountability.
+ Develop and implement training programs to transfer HSE knowledge and core competencies to management and associates.
+ Establish and achieve audits to track and identify gaps in the local compliance with Sysco's (HSE) policies and procedures.
+ Support creation of health, safety and environmental (HSE) goals for the site management and appropriate activity-based goals for the leadership team, functional managers, and front-line supervisors to drive HSE culture, compliance and results.
+ Head a company-wide system to identify and evaluate hazards (risks), and implement effective controls (corrective solutions).
+ Lead incident investigation process, including cause analysis and identification of corrective action plans.
+ Provide supervisor and management training on root cause analysis.
+ Interface with regulatory bodies (OSHA, DOT, EPA, and State/Local Regulators).
+ Facilitate the completion of a company-wide annual HSE training plan.
+ Develop effective interdepartmental relationships.
+ Assist facilities management team in ensuring required regulatory permits are acquired, required reports are submitted to regulatory agencies and any site permit conditions (e.g. recordkeeping, process safety management (PSM), stormwater, special waste, etc.) are met.
+ Achieve annual targets for incident frequency, severity and cost reductions.
+ Display strong problem solving, organizational and analytical skills.
+ Demonstrate professional maturity and ability to act as a change leader.
+ Create and facilitate health, safety, and environmental (HSE) engagement through HSE teams and committees needed to accomplish the established targets and annual objectives.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education**
+ Bachelor's degree or certifications with equivalent experience.
**Experience**
+ 5-7 years of hands-on environmental and safety experience in a warehousing/distribution, manufacturing, or transportation operation.
+ Considerable experience with occupational safety, transportation safety, and environmental compliance preferred.
**Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations**
+ Has attained or is working toward certification in safety (CSP).
+ Other pertinent safety certifications or designations are desirable as well.
+ Must possess a valid Driver's License and provide proof of liability coverage meeting company standards.

The Safety Director is responsible for ensuring that the highest level of safety and security standards are maintained to protect the residents, employees, and visitors, as well as the assets of our community. They interact with various departments ensuring general safety practices are being adhered to. PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

+ Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) Prevention Program Management: Identify, reduce, and ultimately eliminate tasks that present a high risk for serious injury and or fatality. Apply SIF logic to identify job tasks, activities, and situations that present a high SIF risk. Conduct Protection Validation Studies on each SIF situation to identify and close protection gaps.
+ Safety Communications: Works closely with EH&S team to ensure appropriate dissemination and implementation of EH&S policies, corporate safety communications, and initiatives. Assesses risks and monitors Market Area safety trends to create and deploy appropriate safety awareness messaging.
+ Incident Management: Determines severity and initiates formal investigation as necessary. Ensures all relevant incident data is captured in the WM EH&S portal. Creates and disseminates both qualitative and quantitative reports on Site and or Market Area incidents analyses. Works closely with Third Party Risk Administrator to ensure all required information is documented and transferred appropriately. Determines level of Root Cause Analysis to be performed. Works with People Team as required.
+ District Specific Safety Plan: Analyzes incident trends and works close with both Market Area and Site Leadership to ensure DSSP is in place and operational.
+ Hazardous Energy Control Program: Has oversight of the WM Hazardous Energy Control Program and is able to direct, train and coach others on the relevant topics to ensure HECP protocols are being followed.
+ Regulation (DOT, OSHA, etc.) Management: Has knowledge of Federal, State/Provincial DOT/OSHA regulations as they pertain to WM operational requirements. Works closely with internal and external Subject Matter Experts to ensure WM is in adherence to all required standards and regulations.
+ WM / Customer Facilities Compliance Management: Management capabilities to oversee site/safety management systems (e.g., fire protection/detection/alarms (burglar, CNG, etc.)). Can conduct reviews of new equipment installs. Ensures inclement weather / natural disaster preparedness plans are in place. Conducts Safety Audits / Inspections and assists with commercial insurance management issues.
+ Safety Recognition Program Management: Establish performance criteria/thresholds and feedback mechanism for effectiveness evaluation.
+ Employee Health Management: Works closely with Corporate Subject Matter Experts to ensure all sites are following the Medical Monitoring Program and are in adherence to the WM Industrial Hygiene Program Management.
+ Personal Protective Equipment Management: Is considered the SME on WM PPE policies and procurement for their Market Area. Works closely with corporate supply chain to ensure Market Area is supplied appropriately.
+ People Development (Safety specific): Must be able to constructively develop and coach others on overall risk management and safety topics. Provide developmental opportunities based upon incident investigations, DriveCam events, Employee Observations, SIF Observations, etc. to improve and advance their safety, skills, knowledge and performance.
+ Employee Observations: Can coach and train market area safety specialists, market area leaders (DMs, RMS, etc.) on safety trends from EH&S Portal, DriveCam, and SIF data to be use in conducting effective employee observations and coaching conversations.
**III. Supervisory Responsibilities**
The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of managerial employees. This includes:
