Job Purpose:

We are seeking a hands-on Semiconductor Packaging Engineer to work for a High-Tech Semiconductor Manufacturer in the Tucson, Area. The Semiconductor Packaging Engineer will ensure stable, robust, repeatable, sustainable and high-yielding manufacturing processes and products are achieved, monitored and maintained and will help to implement a new MES system. Process development and optimize physical packaging. Developing and improving manufacturing processes for packaging, including wafer-level and chip-level assembly, and bonding.

Responsibilities include development, continuous improvement, and sustaining processes all in close partnership with Device and Integration Engineering as well as design teams. You will be expected to clearly communicate goals, roles, and responsibilities, engage and motivate engineering talent, define and set deliverables, plan resources, and achieve desired results. You will be expected to contribute technically, maintain an optimistic, can-do approach, and present status to executive level management. Excellent judgment, expertise in semiconductor processing, and leadership are essential to success in this role. The position reports to the Process Engineering Manager. Will monitor and control of the process. Improve the process or introduce new process and tools to improve yield, capacity and quality. Work with engineering team to develop new products. Work with engineering team to transfer new products or new process to production and will help to implement a new MES system.

Position responsibilities include daily oversight of manufacturing operations, continuous improvement of operational processes including scheduling and executing production for Back End Assembly Process. Conducts studies in operations to optimize workflow and space utilization. Ensures facility efficiency and workplace safety.


Responsibilities:

  • Manufacturing monitoring and improvements with SPC.
  • Creating weekly yield reports using statistical tools.
  • Creating and maintaining work standards using work measurement, and dynamic and static capacity and cost simulation models.
  • Workflow optimization through creating and implementing in-process kanbans models.
  • Working with materials manager for supply chain optimization and inventory minimization through creating and implementing raw material kanbans.
  • Design of Experiments (DOE) and data analysis to support engineering efforts to improve product design and manufacturability.
  • Performance measurement and analysis to monitor and improve manufacturing.
  • Applying various statistical methods to improve reproducibility and manufacturability through Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) , Control Plan and Gage R&R studies.
  • Data analysis and improvements to manufacturing capabilities.
  • Work with information technology department to improve database structures and collection methods to improve manufacturing.
  • Cost and net worth analysis to evaluate capital expenditures for expansion scenarios.
  • Maximize space utilization through layout evaluation, design, and improvements, using design software such as AutoCAD, Draftsight.

Duties:

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with applicable departments and suppliers to evaluate potential new processes and materials to improve cost, yield, reliability and quality.
  • Drive identification and implementation of process improvements to increase yield and reduce operating costs.
  • Identify new hardware requirements to meet the developing process/customer needs. Ensure these requirements are addressed appropriately with regard to specifications, budget constraints, supplier identification and thorough evaluation.
  • Develop, modify and/or continuously improve manufacturing process and procedures to enable higher productivity, reduced scrap, and improved quality.


Skills/Qualifications:

Must have a B.S. or M.S. Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Must have knowledge of process Assembly of semiconductor lasers. Communication and managing skills are required.  

Clean room manufacturing environment, experience working in cleanrooms and labs.

Exposure to medium to long term projects.

3+ years of experience within the semiconductor industry (die bonding, oven, wire bonding, lead frame design, SMT, reflowing, among other processes).

New Product Introduction. Strong verbal, written, presentation, analytical and interpersonal skills.

Leadership capabilities to drive and deliver results through motivating cross-cultural teams.

Highly proficient in Excel, Word, Powerpoint and statistical software.

Strong analytical and problem solving ability. Appreciation of both practical and theoretical methodologies.

Experienced in equipment selection, commissioning and process set-up.

Knowledge of troubleshooting guides, working documentation, safety.

Knowledge of quality systems and reliability assessment.

Strong SPC and DOE skill set and experience.

Experience with Lean and 5S programs. Experience with Six Sigma.

Demonstrated success in project management.

Detailed working knowledge of semiconductor wafer fabrication processes, including wet and dry etching, thin films, moderate scale photolithography.

Proven track record in program management and technical team leadership.

Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment

About the role

About the role

As a Packaging Engineer at Atomic Semi, you’ll work with a full-stack team to develop a complete process for fabricating semiconductor packaging devices. You’ll be working on things like process development, recipe creation, lithography, deposition, die attaching, bonding, etc.

We are seeking an experienced Semiconductor Packaging Engineer with deep expertise in packaging methods and a passion for exploring new technologies. This person will play a critical role in developing and optimizing processes that leverage 3D printing to create innovative packaging solutions, ensuring they meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements. The ideal candidate will have a broad skill set and be open-minded about integrating 3D printing into semiconductor packaging.

Responsibilities
  • Working with the team to explore and validate innovative semiconductor packaging processes.

  • Conducting hands-on lab experiments end-to-end to test.

  • Innovating novel materials for packaging, considering factors such as conductivity, mechanical strength, and thermal expansion.

  • Evaluating the process to continuously improve performance.

  • Collaborating closely with team members to provide technical support for experiments and methodologies.

  • Creating thorough documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and maintaining equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Required Experience
  • Masters or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

  • 2+ years of experience in semiconductor packaging, with a strong understanding of end-to-end packaging processes and technologies.

  • Knowledge of packaging materials, thermal management, and reliability testing

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex packaging issues effectively.

Nice-to-have
  • Experience in 3d printing

  • Experience in metal plating

  • Mechanical-related background

  • Knowledge of electronic design

Compensation

Compensation: Atomic Semi is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The annual salary range for this role is $115,000 – $180,000. Compensation is determined based on your qualifications and experience. Our total compensation package also includes generous equity in Atomic Semi.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Field Engineer is responsible for supporting field operations by facilitating coordination between engineering, construction, procurement, and project management functions. This role requires strong organizational skills, technical aptitude, and a solution-oriented mindset to assist in successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and manage jobsite documentation (RFIs, ASIs, submittals, QA/QC logs, redlines, and as-builts).
  • Coordinate timely deliveries of tools, equipment, and materials to align with the installation schedule.
  • Assist with subcontractor and vendor coordination to ensure smooth execution on-site.
  • Draft and manage purchase orders and subcontracts.
  • Attend and document project meetings; track open items and follow-ups.
  • Support schedule development, weekly look-aheads, and project task tracking.
  • Monitor and report on craft productivity and labor performance.
  • Assist in preparing estimates and budgets for change orders and field-directed work.
  • Promote and ensure adherence to CAM’s Zero Harm safety culture.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 2–4 years of experience in field engineering, construction, or project coordination; experience in semiconductor or tool install environments is a strong asset.
  • 2–4 years of experience using CAD software for viewing and editing 3D model drawings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project); experience with scheduling or document control tools preferred.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and installation specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized with strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and capable of working under pressure in a dynamic environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent time spent on active construction sites.
  • Must be able to:
    • Sit, talk, hear, and use hands to handle or feel
    • Occasionally reach, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, or crawl
    • Occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds
    • Work in variable weather conditions and environments with moderate to high noise levels

About the Technical Specialist Role

Sterne Kessler is looking for a Technical Specialist to join their Electronics Group. We are looking for top-notch engineers from industry and academia, as well as recent graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in intellectual property law. As a Technical Specialist, you will be supported by two formal mentors. Also, Technical Specialists are expected to study and sit for the Patent Bar within their first 1-2 years with the firm. Upon passing the US patent exam, Technical Specialists earn a bonus and become practicing Patent Agents.

Role location: This role is based in our Washington, D.C. office on a hybrid basis, with regular in-office days. We have flexibility to pick which days you work in the office. Sterne Kessler offers relocation reimbursement to offset moving costs.

Responsibilities & Requirements

As a Technical Specialist in the Electronics Group, you will:
  • Perform research into developing and emerging technologies
  • Prepare written and oral reports to attorneys and/or patent agents
  • Assist and prepare patent applications and other Patent Office filings, such as Information Disclosure Statements, replies to Notice to File Missing Parts, responses to Office Actions and Appeal Briefs for signature by attorneys and/or patent agents
  • Interact with inventors to obtain disclosures
  • Maintain and organize prosecution files
  • Assist with prosecution of foreign patent applications by preparing letters of instruction to foreign associates for signature by attorneys and patent agents
  • Maintain and monitor docket of work due dates
Requirements
  • Master's in electrical engineering and/or computer engineering.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following:
    • Knowledge of 5G/LTE/wireless communications standards preferred, or 3G or 4G standards knowledge
    • Radiofrequency (RF) circuit design and communications knowledge
    • Internet of Things (IoT) Bluetooth communications design knowledge

  • Genuine and demonstrated interest in applying your scientific and research experience to the IP and patent law field

Compensation philosophy : The actual salary rate offered to candidates within that range will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, years of relevant experience, education, and the candidate's overall qualifications for the position as assessed by the firm.
