About the Role
The Director of Corporate Sustainability & ESG is responsible for building and implementing the HARMAN Environmental, Social, and Governance strategy and corporate global sustainability program. The program is committed to measuring and reducing HARMANs climate impact, implementing best practices to identify and mitigate climate-related risks, overseeing due diligence related to social matters such as human rights, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory reporting requirements. The Director serves as HARMANs lead subject matter expert on ESG and sustainability. The position is responsible for cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders and senior leadership to develop and progress HARMANs strategic sustainability goals and program. The Director will also identify trends, opportunities, and potential threats to meeting HARMANs corporate sustainability and ESG objectives.
Your Team
The Director leads a team of direct reports and multiple dotted-line sustainability professionals, and is responsible for coaching, mentoring, performance management, and professional development. The position reports to the VP, Regulatory Compliance & Sustainability.
What You Will Do
Strategy and Governance
Build and implement HARMANs long term corporate sustainability and ESG strategy and goals, based on a regular impact, risk & opportunities assessment process.
Lead and accelerate the companys progress toward each ESG initiative and goal including the efficacy of HARMANs decarbonization strategy and progress toward established GHG reduction goals.
Advise and inform the HARMAN ESG Committee and other internal leaders on the priority of sustainability issues and overall sustainability program performance.
Drive consideration for ESG matters in corporate enterprise risk management processes and ensure action plans are in place to mitigate identified risks.
Lead the budgeting process for HARMANs corporate sustainability program, including the development of business cases, adherence to assigned annual budget(s), and opportunities to enhance spend efficiency.
Manage HARMANs relationship with external sustainability strategy and reporting consultants.
Cross-departmental Collaboration
Align internal stakeholders such as Business Division Sustainability Leads, Supply Chain Risk Management, Procurement, and Manufacturing to track and accelerate the progress and efficacy of HARMANs sustainability program.
Create and manage global ESG program governance forums and mechanisms to drive progress toward sustainability initiatives, and ensure regular and effective cross-functional coordination, communication, and visibility into our sustainability strategy and priorities.
Enhance employee engagement through training and communications initiatives across divisions and functions, to educate on sustainability best practices and drive a culture of sustainability within HARMAN.
Serve as the dedicated interface between HARMAN and parent company Samsung on ESG and sustainability program synergy and alignment opportunities.
Compliance
Collaborate across the business to ensure appropriate supply chain and internal due diligence mechanisms are in place regarding social matters such as human rights (e.g., child/forced labor, working conditions), and that the company is compliant with all related disclosure regulations.
Identify, advise on, and ensure compliance with all global sustainability & ESG disclosure laws and regulations.
Maintain a view of industry and peer best practice, and regulatory requirements, to ensure sufficient coverage and action across HARMANs current and future sustainability & ESG policies.
Reporting
Lead all external ESG reporting and disclosure activities. Oversee the continuous improvement of data quality and reliability, efficiency of data collection systems and processes, internal controls, and audit/verification processes (as applicable) for all ESG data.
Develop HARMANs expertise and accuracy with regard to environmental data and carbon accounting practices, including the management of corporate environmental dashboards to enhance decision-useful visibility into collected data (e.g. trends, site-level comparisons).
Lead the production (content, standards/framework alignment, design and timeline) of HARMANs annual voluntary sustainability report, including cross-departmental collaboration and data collection methodologies, and selection/oversight of support resources
Lead corporate engagement and disclosure activities with strategic ESG assessment organizations (e.g., CDP, Ecovadis, and others).
Support internal and external inquiries regarding ESG and sustainability strategy and performance data, such as from internal business units, and customers.
Thought Leadership
Oversee HARMANs internal and external sustainability communications Lead HARMANs relationships with membership-based sustainability organizations (e.g., RBA .).
As the lead representative of HARMANs ESG and sustainability program, communicate our strategy and priorities in external community networks, broader industry forums and engagements (e.g., conferences, webinars).
What You Need to Be Successful
At least 10 years experience working in large, global, highly matrixed, and dynamic organization.
Strong knowledge and understanding of global and industry sustainability trends, challenges and opportunities.
Demonstrated experience building and scaling a corporate sustainability and ESG program and decarbonization strategy including meaningful goals and KPIs against which the company can measure sustainability performance.
The ability to assess and translate sustainability frameworks, standards, regulations and other pressures/trends into business cases and corporate action plans, and secure division, business unit and leadership buy-in.
A proven track record of successful cross-functional collaboration and leadership, ability to build consensus, and implementation of concurrent, complex strategic sustainability initiatives and programs.
Outstanding communication and presentation skills. Experience communicating with internal and external stakeholders, with the willingness to represent the companys sustainability interests in public forums and the highest levels including executive leadership and the Board.
Experience fostering and managing partnerships with private sector partners, NGOs, governments, and multilateral organizations.
Familiarity with best-in-class sustainability, sourcing and procurement practices.
Ability to analyze complex data and create internal controls to ensure data integrity.
Experience managing external counsel, agencies and/or contractor support.
Bonus Points if You Have
Graduate level business, sustainability, engineering or law degree a plus.
Certification in the field of sustainability, corporate responsibility, project management or similar.
Understanding of the Automotive and/or Consumer Electronics industry and manufacturing processes a plus.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will:
- Work under the supervision of senior staff to lead project teams and efficiently execute on client deliverables including ESG materiality assessments, GHG inventories and decarbonization strategies, sustainability questionnaires and reports, ESG gap analyses and greenwashing audits, and performance improvement roadmaps.
- Oversee the execution of all phases of a project to meet our clients objectives, as well as company goals for revenue generation and profitability.
- Direct the execution of projects to meet technical, quality, budgetary, and scheduling requirements.
- Demonstrate strong technical competence in the services required by our clients.
- Manage all phases and aspects of projects to address client goals, objectives, and produce high quality deliverables.
- Develop standard work processes, templates, and tools to efficiently deliver on client projects with technical accuracy, consistency, and profitability.
- Support business development efforts by developing proposals and preparing external presentations in collaboration with the Practice Leader and senior staff.
- Mentor and guide staff in the efficient production of client deliverables to meet budget and schedule expectations.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in civil, chemical, environmental, or mechanical engineering, geology, or related technical field; graduate degree a plus.
- Minimum 12-15 years consulting experience, with at least 5 years working on ESG-related issues.
- Consistent track record of successfully managing large and strategic projects.
- Excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, and emotional intelligence.
- Comfortable with interfacing with clients to understand and address evolving client needs through a project.
- Working knowledge of ESG policies including financial and regulatory requirements such as CSRD, CBAM, EU Taxonomy, SEC Climate-related disclosure rule, and CA climate rules.
- Experience with international ESG reporting frameworks and standards including GRI, SASB, IFRS/ISSB, TCFD, TNFD, and EFRAG/ESRS.
- Familiarity with ESG ratings and rankers including DJSI, CDP, Sustainalytics, S&P Global, Moodys, MSCI, ISS, GRESB, and EcoVadis.
- Knowledge of GHG accounting standards and protocols (including the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064) with experience in boundary setting, data collection and quality, and allocation. Specific experience in Scope 3 assessment a strong plus.
- Familiarity with climate resiliency issues and the intersection with ESG.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex environmental issues and demonstrated experience writing ESG disclosures.
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and be highly responsive to client requests and deadlines.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of applications and experience with Microsoft Teams.
- Technology savvy with experience in various GHG and sustainability data analytic tools, data management systems and the ability to learn and adapt quickly. Specific experience with sustainability software platforms and data science and/or data visualization skills highly desired.
- Limited travel as required to support project activities.

**POSITION SUMMARY**
Corporate Financial Accounting ("CFA") is a headquarter-based accounting department responsible for the accounting and reporting relating to Marriott's investment, development, joint venture, foreign exchange, debt, Environment, Social, and Governance ("ESG"), and international banking activities.
As a member of the Corporate Financial Accounting Team, the Senior Director will partner with other Marriott colleagues to lead various financial and operational management initiatives that support financial and ESG operational business objectives. This role involves taking lead on strategic planning and oversight of new processes and controls to support ESG reporting and compliance. The Senior Director will be responsible for overseeing the creation of comprehensive documentation strategies over ESG data to meet all internal control, U.S. GAAP, and international reporting requirements while also allowing for the flexibility to accommodate evolving future business needs. The salary range for this position is $147,000 to $247,500 annually.
