TITLE: PATROL OFFICER, SENIOR
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION:
The purpose of this classification is to perform general and specialized law enforcement work to preserve public peace, to protect lives, property, and rights of the public; and to enforce statutory law and municipal ordinances. Work involves patrolling City streets and neighborhoods to deter crime or apprehend and/or arrest violators or suspects, responding to calls for law enforcement assistance, and gathering information for criminal investigations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Reduces the commission of crimes and maintains law enforcement by patrolling throughout the city; patrols City streets and neighborhoods in a police vehicle, bicycle, or on a police motorcycle; apprehends and/or arrests persons who violate federal, State, or City codes and laws; research codes and laws.
- Monitors radio calls; communicates with radio dispatcher and responds to complaints, reports of criminal events, requests for law enforcement, and domestic or public disputes; inspects troublesome areas and checks the security of business establishments.
- Secures crime scenes; gathers information in criminal investigations by interviewing victims, witnesses, informants, and suspects; performs searches of people, vehicles, and buildings; takes and files photographs; takes detailed confessions; prepares investigative reports of findings, facts, and related information; makes arrests and processes arrested suspects; detects and collects evidence and substances that provide the basis for probable cause for criminal acts; testifies in court.
- Enforces traffic laws and regulations; detects traffic violators; issues parking violations; performs traffic accident investigations and makes reports; facilitates the movement of traffic and pedestrians around accidents, disabled traffic control devices, or heavily congested areas; assists disabled motorists; directs traffic for funerals and other public gatherings.
- Performs rescue functions at accidents, emergency scenes, and disaster areas.
- Prepares, obtains, and serves arrest warrants; serves legal documents.
- Completes and/or reviews paperwork documenting shift activities, offenses and accidents, victim and suspect statements, and other related information; completes State report documents to record criminal offenses; prepares annual traffic enforcement and aware program reports; prepares incident reports, arrest reports, and lab and property sheets; organizes and files records.
- Assists other law enforcement personnel and agencies.
- Engages in public relations and community service activities and events to promote a positive image for the Department and to build cooperative and collaborative relationships with the community; provides crime prevention/safety services to the community.
- Attends roll call; attends training; attends community policing meetings.
- Provides school security.
- Assists in ambulance services.
- Serves as bank deposit escort for local businesses.
- Assists and provides advice to citizens on civil matters; assists children in need of services.
- Operates a police vehicle, intoxilizer, preliminary breath tester, personal computer, radar, telephone, pager, copier, facsimile machine, handcuffs, police radio, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.
Police Officers, Senior serving as D.A.R.E./G.R.E.A.T. Officers or School Resource Officers perform the following additional duties:
- Instructs students in elementary and middle schools; orders and purchases necessary materials needed for classes.
- Serves as School Resource Officer; counsels and mentors students with special needs; assists teachers and aides in lunchroom and classroom; assists principals with school problems.
- Supervises students in other activities; provides and schedules extra activities for students.
- Speaks to civic and church groups; sets up public safety and awareness displays at schools and stores.
- Serves as liaison between faculty, students, Police, parents, and the general public at assigned school.
Police Officers, Senior serving as K-9 Officers perform the following additional duties:
- Enforces criminal and traffic laws with the use of a canine to locate wanted persons, stolen property, and narcotics.
- Cares for and trains canine.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintains assigned vehicle, equipment, and firearms.
May be assigned to the Emergency Response Team.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by basic and annual training in law enforcement; two years of experience in law enforcement; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky driver’s license.
Must possess and maintain Peace Officer Professional Standards Certification.

+ Maintaining accurate and detailed logs and records of dispatch activities. This entails typing, distributing, and filing reports, as well as processing requests for copies of incident reports.
+ Monitoring campus email and replying or forwarding as necessary
+ Assisting with general office duties

Job Summary: The Public Safety Police Officer works under the direct supervision of the Public Safety Supervisor (Police Sergeants) for assigned shift. In conjunction with and under the direction of the Police Sergeants, the Public Safety Police Officer is responsible for ensuring work is performed according to departmental policies and standards. This position makes informed decisions, within established departmental guidelines, to serve the Medical Center community and provide a safe and secure environment for all patients, visitors and employees of the BIDMC community.
**Job Description:**
**Essential Responsibilities:**
1. Responsible for ensuring operational efficiency, planning, scheduling and incident response. He/she is responsible for maintaining community relations. Maintains a cooperative relationship with the Police Sergeants and the Public Safety staff. Exercises independent judgement.
2. Protection of life and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, and the enforcement of laws and ordinances. A police officer may be assigned to uniformed patrol, traffic control, crime prevention, investigative work, juvenile work, or other specialized departmental activity. Work involves an element of personal danger in the pursuit of duties.
3. Responsible for responding to the needs and inquiries of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center community, and strives for a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors by providing security of buildings, grounds, and parking areas throughout Medical Center campus. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.
4. Patrols grounds and parking areas observing for violators, safety hazards, and unauthorized persons and may issue parking warnings and take other corrective actions for minor violations. Monitors access control, responds to calls for service, documents and responds to all unusual/routine occurrences as necessary.
5. Provides feedback and input to Public Safety Supervisors to support improvement in key areas including, but not limited to, patient watches, crime statistics, security response times, restraint information.
6. Responsible for promoting crime prevention amongst the security staff and proactive techniques to reduce crime, theft and loss of Medical Center property and work with other members of the Medical Center to reduce crime and create a safe and secure environment.
7. Collaborates with key managers and directors throughout the Medical Center in establishing and facilitating a secure and safe environment. Works closely with the Safety Department, Radiation Safety, and Psychiatry, Emergency Department and Media Services.
8. Assists clinical staff with patient restraints and transports patients to and from campus, designated areas.
9. Conducts investigation of incidents and writes investigative reports. Attends court when presence is required to successfully prosecute an arrest or summons
**Required Qualifications:**
1. High School diploma or GED required. Associate's degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
2. License MA ClassA Lrg capacity firearm required.
3. 1-3 years related work experience required.
4. Regularly meet BIDMC firearms qualification and police/BIDMC training standards required. Meet and maintain qualification standards set by State/Federal Govt, necessary for approval to access CJIS terminal points. Applicants must be a graduate of a Full-Time MA State Police Academy or Full-Time MPTC Academy or equivalent. At least 21 years old
5. Appointees must be eligible for appointment as a Special State Police Officer in accordance with M.G.L. ch.22 s. 63 Massachusetts Class A License to Carry. Massachusetts Drivers License. Candidates will be required to pass a comprehensive background check, psychological exam, drug test, and pre-employment medical exam
6. Flexibility and availability to work any shift including weekends/holidays required on short notice. Subject to frequent holdover and call back.
7. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

The University of New Mexico-Valencia is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. This position will:
- Provide information, directions and escort for faculty, staff, visitors and students on the campus as needed
- Enforce local, state, and federal laws and ensure compliance with University Policies
- Investigate and document crimes/incidents
- Document and preserve evidence, and provide legal testimony in a court of law
- Patrol Campus and provide victim/witness assistance, and serve as crime prevention officer
- Provide comprehensive law enforcement services for the Valencia Campus, to include locking and unlocking buildings as needed, patrols on foot or mobile equipment, and monitoring traffic as directed to ensure compliance with campus driving policies
- Write incident reports, issue citations, and provide local law enforcement with information when necessary
This position involves some exposure to unruly persons, environmental hazards, physical risks and adherence to the force continuum that will achieve the intended result, without causing injury or damage to property or personnel. The above statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principle functions of the position identified and shall not be considered inclusive of all work requirements that may be inherent in the position. The position involves shift-work and varying days off, subject to seniority bid, with hours based on campus needs. Weekend work will be required.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited law enforcement academy; no previous experience required. Certification/Licensure State of New Mexico Certified Law Enforcement Officer, or eligibility for Certification by waiver.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

CLASSIFICATION TITLE: POLICE OFFICER
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to protect life and property, to respond to the needs of the general public, to deter criminal activity within the community, to enforce all city statutes, ordinances and the laws and regulations of the state, and to perform investigations, special details, and specific assignments within an assigned division.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Enforces all city and state codes, ordinances, laws and regulations, both traffic and criminal, in order to protect life and property and to prevent crime and promote security.
- Maintains high visibility by patrolling assigned area, city streets, parks, neighborhoods, and businesses to ensure security; makes observations for prowlers, would-be thieves, suspicious persons, and violators.
- Performs surveillance of problem locations and criminal suspects; collects and reviews data; develops trends and/or patterns pertaining to location/suspects; files intelligence reports.
- Investigates reported crimes; interviews and obtains statements from victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informants; processes crime scenes; gathers, prepares, and submits evidence to crime lab.
- Obtains warrants; performs various types of search operations; locates missing persons.
- Determines probable cause to search and/or reasonable suspicion to detain suspects; pursues fleeing and subdues resisting suspects; effects arrests; processes and transports prisoners.
- Actions dispatch communications; responds to emergency calls and calls for assistance; mediates disputes and advises rights.

- Attends community meetings and makes school visitations; assists with community activities, programs, and crime prevention; may promote and participate in DARE, Child Identification, and Crime Stoppers programs.
- Responds to questions, complaints, and requests for information by telephone or in person from merchants, community/civic organizations, the general public, employees, superiors, and various other individuals.
- Exchanges information with dispatchers, attorneys, court personnel, medical examiner, medical professionals, and other departments and agencies.
- Maintains current field and code manuals, policy and procedures, employee handbooks, various maps, and related material for reference and/or review.
- Attends shift meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required to remain knowledgeable of departmental and city operations, to promote improved job performance, and to stay current with changing policies, procedures, codes, and laws.
- Composes and prepares a variety of forms, logs, requests, records, reports, correspondence, and various other documents associated with daily responsibilities of this position; maintains administrative records and files.
- Cooperates with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and its officers or representatives when their activities or investigations are related to on-going investigations within city jurisdiction.
- Maintains regular and predictable in person attendance during regular business hours of the City of Henderson as required.
- Must undergo and successfully complete drug test and alcohol screening prior to employment and undergo and successfully complete future drug test and/or alcohol screening pursuant to the City's Drug and Alcohol policy.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
May perform special operations/detail activities such as desk, media and/or public information officer, special response team (SRT), drug task force, DUI task force, negotiations, juvenile, homicide, gang unit, narcotics, environmental protection, field training, teaching, and/or others as assigned.
Maintains cleanliness of law enforcement vehicle; requests vehicle service and/or repairs as needed and shuttles vehicles to city garage for same; maintains weapons and equipment in functional and presentable condition.
Performs residential and business inspections.
Answers the telephone; provides information, advice and guidance; takes and relays messages and/or direct calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary; performs other administrative tasks as assigned.

May be required to be on twenty-four hour call and/or regularly work on various shifts, weekends, and/or holidays as deemed necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by little or no previous experience or training; some public relations experience in a similar police/law enforcement or related environment preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must be at least 21-years of age. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must pass and maintain current certification requirements of the Basic Criminal Justice Training Academy operated by the Kentucky Justice Cabinet as a law enforcement officer. Must obtain and maintain certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and as an Intoxilyzer 5000 Operator. Must be able to legally possess a firearm and qualified to operate a firearm.

JOB SUMMARY
As the backbone of the Cedarville Police Department, this position is under the general supervision of the ranking officer. The Police Officer performs a wide variety of patrol and related duties involving the prevention of crime, the protection of life and property and enforcement of laws and ordinances; makes investigations, assists in the preparation of cases and testifies in court; serves in specialized departmental roles as assigned; provides information and assistance to the public; and performs related work as required.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is a sworn law enforcement classification that performs all non-supervisory assignments found in a municipal police department. Principal duties include response to emergencies, general and directed patrol, investigation of crimes and other non-criminal incidents, traffic enforcement and control, assisting in crime prevention activities, and other law enforcement services and duties as required. A significant degree of initiative, independent judgment, and discretion is required of incumbents to develop, maintain, and successfully perform in a community oriented, problem-solving approach to policing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Answers emergency calls regarding law enforcement matters; enforces City, State, and Federal laws/ordinances and requests for assistance as required.
Secures information from parties at an incident scene and follows through on investigations.
Makes arrests and collects and preserves evidence at a crime scene.
Submits reports or investigations of criminal and non-criminal matters, conducting follow-up investigations on incidents when needed.
Directs traffic at emergency or congested situations.

Administers first aid and CPR as required.
Continually qualifies and trains in the areas of use of force, firearms qualifications, defensive tactics, crowd control techniques, baton usage, domestic violence, and other required mandatory training.
Assists with management tasks during a supervisor's absence, training of new personnel and specialized duties as assigned.
Testifies in court as required.
Promotes good public relations between the city and the general public; assists the public by rendering informational aid and assistance to motorists and other citizens, listening to complaints, etc.
Complies with departmental policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and administrative directives.
Performs related law enforcement duties as assigned and cooperates with other governmental or law enforcement agencies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic law enforcement terminology and concepts; knowledge and experience in the utilization of technical equipment including computers, cameras, and radar units; and knowledge and skill in the use, care, and safe handling of firearms. Skill in observing and accurately recalling places, names, faces and incidents; skill in making rapid and sound independent judgement within legal and procedural guidelines; and skill in preparing clear, accurate, and grammatically correct reports, records, and other written materials. Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully and with respect for the rights of others; ability to inspire the trust and confidence of others; ability to quickly learn and retain complex laws, codes and case law pertaining to law enforcement duties; ability to operate patrol vehicles in emergency mode; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written, as well as carry out oral and written orders and directions; and ability to develop and maintain successful working relationships with all others encountered in the course of work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Employee frequently is required to sit, stand, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch. Often required to run, jump, push, pull, drive safely at high speeds and adverse conditions, and physically apprehend and subdue suspects. Occasionally lifts and/or moves over 100 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, the ability to focus, and be free of color blindness. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employee generally works 10% indoors and 90% outdoors (including time spent in a patrol car or other police vehicle). This job can be very fast paced and may require quick changes in pace within a short period of time. Work performed in an indoor environment is generally in a temperature-controlled office. While performing duties of this job outdoors, the employee is subject to diverse weather conditions at all times of the day and night. Employee is routinely exposed to hazardous situations that may result in injury, death, or use of deadly force on others. The noise level is usually moderate but the employee may occasionally be exposed to high level noises including but not limited to emergency vehicle sirens, gun fire, shouting, and yelling.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be a U.S. Citizen, be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment, possess a high school diploma or G. E. D. equivalent and possess a valid Ohio driver's license. Thorough background, education and criminal record checks will be completed. A physical and drug test will be needed prior to employment. Must possess a current Ohio Police Officer's Training Academy certificate for law enforcement.
